I just bought a 2008 Sonata GL 2.4l auto, Canadian version and yesterday parked beside a brand new Camry LE. Coming out of the store I noticed the Camry owner looking my Sonata over, and said hi.

He asked me how my car was equipped and I gave him the list of standard features and he was visibly disturbed. I asked him what was the problem and he gave me his story. He bought the car on the insistence of his son, who "guaranteed" this was the best deal he could get. Bottom line he got a basic Camry, PS,PB, Air, AM/FM CD (not even MP3), PW, Cruise. No floor mats, side molding (the dealer wanted $250.00 more), alarm, power seats with lumbar adjustment, trip computer, no mud flaps, no wheel locks.

Basically, a "stripper" by todays standards. In addition he paid over $6,000 more!

Hyundai Canada has put together a great car, that has more room than Camry, Accord and as far as I can see all other cars, gets just as good mileage, looks great and has features that may not even be available on most competitors.

I know I'm preaching to the converted ... but man am I happy with my choice!

I've greeted a few camry and accord owners with similar sad news.

Had a camry owner trying to trade me for his top of the line xle, then he laughed and said but only if I have shares in a transmission company.
I guess he was on his second transmission with about 12 service visits for tranny issues in the first 9 months.

I LOVE hearing stories like these, because around here, everyone thinks GOD himself designed Toyota for the betterment of mankind. :amen:

The 2008 Sonata may be the best priced midsize car period. Even when you drop down in size to a Mazda 3 or a Honda Civic with the same equipment as my Sonata Limited you end up paying $3,000.00 more. :)

I didn't say I'd pay that cause I won't. I DON'T buy it. We just go up in the mountains and collect our own from sasquatch.

who you calling "northerner" .. here in Toronto we are several hundred miles south of your latitude; we're roughly the same lat as northern California

oh and welcome aboard eddie; it's as if the Sonata flies under everyone's radar for some reason - I tell people how much my car was and they say "WHAT !! holy bargain batman" ...

oh well, that's good - everyone and their dog has a Camcord. The Sonata is more special. :whistling:

I don't think GOD was behind the Toyota designs, Tommer (not very nice, Tommer!). But I can tell you this: Toyota made WONDERFUL Camrys in the 90s. I used to lease Camrys thruout the 90s. My best car ever was a 1996 LE 4-banger. The 1997-2001 model was not as well designed and built. Then came this STUPID, UGLY design of the 2002 and things started deteriorating.

I'd say Toyota is riding on its reputation and success, and doesn't feel the urge to make the extra effort any more.

...While Hyundai is the "WE TRY HARDER" company, making a desperate effort to leave behind the terrible reputation it justifiably earned during the 90s. This is a SURVIVAL thing. The 4G Sonata is the first in a line of products that reflects this need to DO IT RIGHT, and even BETTER.

I live in a bedroom community near Edmonton, Alberta and yes we had 1 1/2 ft of snow 10 days ago and the pic was taken b4 it was all melted. It's all gone now and the golf courses are open again, 3rd time this spring. Btw - some of you southerners should send some of that global warming that Al Gore is always wining about our way. We could use it this spring!

I think MT gets more snow than we do. I would think that comment might come from a real southerner not a 49th paralleler!

Well being in Florida I'm not near the "southerner" I was when I lived in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas <---- THE true South. :) Florida is "in" the South but not "the" South when talking about southerners. :)

However, being from Anchorage, I saw they had over two feet of snow the other night - of course it's all gone as it's 54 degrees there right now.
