Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I plan to first try shortening the assembly by connecting the "remote" ring directly to the key, bypassing the leather section. Then I will try some of the other suggestions. :liebe011:

My searches on this forum do not always provide results that are useful. I am not a computer expert, so please do not jump my case because I fail to find something that has already been answered/posted. After all, we each have our own way of describing something and search engines do not always provide valid responses.

Joe, although this topic isn't of particular interest to me, as you can see from all the other posts in this thread it is to many others. I am glad you are here and asking questions even if they've been covered before. Renewing a topic sometimes can lead to new ideas that weren't presented in previous threads and it makes for a good lively forum. Occasionally, this site gets a little flat when folks aren't posting. You are doing your part to help keep this very good forum going.
I/we love you, man!

Thanks to boostedfc3s's post, I have shortened the assembly by bypassing the leather link. This appears to have solved the problem except for very violent bumps, so I think we will be satisfied with this method.

If it turns out that this does not ultimately satisfy us, I will try some of the other suggestions.

Thanks once again to the group! :liebe011:

Joe,

I did not mean to insult your intelligence or offend you in any way when I suggested to you that next time you may want to use the "search" feature of this web site.

Sometimes newbies come here and don't realize it is availabe. The search can be valuable if you are in a hurry.

If I have a problem I need to solve quickly or need information ASAP, I will use the search. If the info is not there, I will either start a new post, like you did, or dredge up the old posts and ask questions through that process.

No matter how you handle it, there is no question, you will get plenty of results on this site.

Good luck solving the "wack on the dash" problem. Like I said earlier, the only thing that worked for me was making the key and remote "one unit". I live on a very rough country road, like you, and I think that is why I had to go to that extreme.

I have tried all the other methods mentioned and all of them worked for me in the city but not on my country road. Sometimes my car gets to rocking from side to side and that really makes it bad. I drive very slowly and even that doesn't help.

Again, I apologize if I offended you in any way. I certainly did not mean to.

I have the same problem, bit of a over sight from the designers part (hope they read this). I have temporarily stuck small Velcro tabs on. One on the remote alarm button which does the banging and the other on the dash just under where the key inserts so it is not easily seen. As soon as I start the car I just have to touch the alarm remote to mate the Velcro and all is quiet. It is a temporary fix as the Velcro on the Alarm remote is starting to deteriate. So I am open to other suggestions as well.

So, here's my solution to the key fob imbroglio: A small carabiner, a small split-ring; no more in-pocket button pushes, no more scraping-bumping along the dash.

I'll let the key go nekkid, or maybe I'll add a soft leather strap with a quick-release to the key and attach it to my house key-ring for pocket carry, removing it for automotive use so I don't have a lot of weight hanging down and wearing the auto's key mechanism...

... and here's what I did for the key, using a leather pouch for a "Zen Stone," a memory chip case with some minimal ID tucked inside the pouch and a couple more split rings and a quick-disconnect to let me attach it to my house key ring...

I used the same type of felt with adhesive, but attached it to the fob. Seems to work for me, but I do not drive on gravel roads and so forth.

This may not be for everyone but here is what I did with my remote. Went to the craft store and got a sheet of black, thin foam and some contact cement. I cut 2 sides out of the foam in the shape of the remote, glued them together and then trimmed them. I put the remote inside before gluing them do it would be tight. I cut a hole for the buttons. So far works just fine for little money and effort.

Here's my solution...

I declare this to be both the laziest AND most effective solution (i.e., both factors together - either one by itself may not be true - not bothering to take the fob off the keychain at all would be even lazier; throwing the key & fob into the middle of the ocean would be more effective at keeping it from whacking the dash).

Cheers!

I'm anxious to see the Genesis key/fob/panic button configuration. The problem has been mentioned since late '05. Surely some Hyundai shirts monitor these forums. Or not?

Genesis has keyless go from what I understand, so you wont even have to take the fob out of your pocket.

Genesis will probably have the same system as the Veracruz. The Proximity Key.

It blows my mind why Hyundai did not offer it for the Azera.

Perhaps the 09 Azeras?

You have come up with what is perhaps the most effective, scientific method yet for solving this "wacking" key problem. Thanks for you help.

Now......................If I just lived a little closer to the ocean. :)

westex39,

I would like to know what the difference is also.  I have been inside, and driven the 2008 Azera and see no difference in the interior what so ever.

We've noticed less of the annoying clatter with our 08. Not recalling the round configuration of the key area on my wife's 07, we thought the dash had been altered. Evidently, that's not the case.
