Hi Guys,

I'm hittin the sack or it'll be Friday! But b4 I go can anyone hear a turbo whine or whistle when they give their Crdi a rev... One of my previous work vehicles was a 2.5 Turbo diesel Ford Courier and one of the few good things about it was the Turbo noise (usedto sound like the cops were on yur tail)

How come we don't get one of those (or is my hearing that bad!)

Good evening

Dazz

I'd put it down to superb soundproofing. I presume your model's as well dampened as mine, and I cannot hear a whistle.

Now see what you've done? It'll be on my mind now and I'll be driving with the windows open (which is not a good idea in this part of the country) straining to hear a whistle.

And if I don't hear said whistle but someone else posts that they do, I'll feel as aggrieved as not having a second keyfob plipper.

i don't like reving diesels too high Dazz, as they won't last long, one of the reasons diesels last is they don't rev high.
another reason i will not be trying to rev my i30 too high is it is long stroke, so piston speed will be higher, also a long stroke has a faster return speed at the end of each stroke.
just thought i would tell you. nothing wrong with a long stroke
Cheers

the i30 is using VGT (variable geometry turbo) is mean that they dont use anymore wastegate like the old turbo did.. so there is no sould (whistle) at all and also no point to put blowoff valve

I can hear the turbo spool up, only when I have the windows down though.

I hear the turbo spool up from idle very well on mine.

Also the when it comes on boost higher up in the rev range, it sounds absolutely lovely!

(Then again, my i30 is not standard!) :whistling:
