Hi eye30,
I haven't noticed any problem with the clutch on my CRDi . The Peugeot 207 diesel I test drove at the same time had a much lighter and sudden clutch, so I almost managed to stall it a couple of times.
From memory you have only had your car a short time. Depending on what you were used to driving before, it sometimes takes a while to get used to a different vehicle. Hopefully with time the problem will go away. Looking on the bright side, if there is a problem with the clutch, it should pack up within 5 years, and be covered under warranty?
Regards
Lawrie

QUOTE(Lakes @ May 1 2008, 07:43 PM) i find the i30 a pleasure to drive in heavy sydney peak traffic as the low 1st gear does not need throtle, it's almost like a truck. love it.
yeah i was trying to find a stall point the other day, bloody thing kept running even at crawling pace with no throttle or clutch! :) Every now and then it would surge/speed up a little then drift back

Thanks for all the comments.
I'll leave it until the service and as I have already told the dealer about it, it should not be dismissed as "fair wear and tear" so be excluded from the 5 year warranty. Ozsnownam re stalling My dealer told me that on the crdi there is anti stall as I commented that when I went to stop, somtimes the car would still move forward very slowly.
Has anyone else been told this?
You can stall anything m8, what the i30 has is, Fly by wire, this means that what you do with you foot is not always what the motor is told to do, if you get my meaning. this is a good sytem, as when they first set these motors up and do fuel maps and so on, they do throtle programs so they have some knowledge and control over how the trotle will be used, if you get my meaning. also , fly by wire controled motors are very smooth in operation , specially if they are auto trans. you might have what i call a high spot in the clutch, this could cause a bite, anything is possible m8. cheers

I noticed that with this (my first) diesel. I can set off using just the clutch upto bite point, then let it roll for a few seconds, then shift up then up again. All without touching the accel pedal. At approx 8mph (Bob, where are you mate?) I can shift to 3rd and the torque & ECU take over, raising the revs to about 1200rpm and the speed to about 18mph, before the revs come back down to 1000rpm and the speed to around 15mph. All without touching the accel pedal. Fantastic torque there. Bite point seems very flexible and I haven't stalled Fergie yet.
