Hi all,

Brand new member here. Been browsing the forum and it seems like a friendly and knowledgeable place. I'm currently in the UK but will be moving to Australia (NSW) at the start of July. Been eyeing up cars and the i30 is pretty much top of my list at the moment. Test drove a UK one a few weeks ago and not bad I thought.

Anyway, wonder if any of you with i30's bought in Australia would be kind enough to answer a couple of questions?

Firstly, do the Australian spec i30s have ISOFIX child seat attachments on the rear seats? I know these aren't the Australian standard but the Hyundai Australia website mentions them and we are planning on bringing our (flippin' expensive!) isofix compatible child seat over. For those of you unfamiliar with the system its a couple of metal lugs (usually D rings) located where the bench bit and the back bit of the rear seat join about 18" apart that a seat with the right attachments literally locks on to negating the need for a seat belt and providing a secure anchor for the seat. This can then be used in conjunction with a seat back tether or as a stand alone system - although I understand the tether is compulsory in Australia and we have always used this in combination with a seatbelt on previous visits. Anyone able to have a look for me?

Secondly, how much is that iPod cable!!!! Think they come standard on UK cars but am wondering about enquiring as to the cost of one from a UK dealer and seeing if it's cheaper to bring it out with me. Anyone know if the UK cable would be the same as the Oz one? Can't see why not.

Finally, anyone able to comment on Hyundai dealers in and around Sydney. What are the service intervals on the car and how much is a service? Gonna start getting quotes now and even think about ordering due to that 3 month delivery time. Appreciate deals might be tight for a popular car but no trade-in and cash may help sweeten things I hope. I'm after a 1.6CDi SLX with Protectz pack and metallic paint - not a popular model then...

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Hopefully will sonn be asking ownership related questions. :)

As regards the baby seat attachment. Hope these photo's help (sounds a bit like what you describe)

Think the Ipod cable is about $110 (it is mentioned somewhere in the forum but someone will answer that more accurately)

I live in Tasmania (where you sent most of your convicts... ) so cant help with the NSW dealer thing

Cheers,

Dazz

Hi Stevep, Welcome, I live in Sydney, it is a large city so there is a lot of dealers. i think you will find the price will be about the same everywhere. so it's mostly easier to just go to the closest dealer. what part of Sydney will you relocate too? i could find the closest and give you there phone # if you like.
the dealer i went to is fairly central to the Sydney sprall, and i was most happy with the speed and the service, they are a class dealer as sell upmarket new cars as well as Hyundai, the salesperson said if i send anyone his way he will look after them.
Hope this is of some help, you could PM me.
John

Hi Steve, Welcome. My SR has the ISOFIX system, and I assume that all Australian i30s has this system.I bought a child seat recently to fit in my car so that I could take my lovely niece around but I still haven't figured out how to use this system so I just used rear seatbelt to secure the childseat.

It may depend if UK and Australia have different design laws in regards to child anchors, but youd think it would be a standard?

Thanks for the quick replies. I think the pics show the anchor points for a seat tether. The ISOFIX bits are at the join of the two bits of seat, usually buried in the join so you don't sit on them. You might have to have a bit of a rummage to find them. The fact that they are on the SR is a good sign though.

As regards seats bought in Australia I doubt they have the isofix attachment (two prongs protruding from the bottom back of the seat) as it's not been adopted by Australia, therefore making it unusual to find the attachments on non-Euro cars. I'm pretty sure it's now standard on all cars bought in Europe. Certainly been on every car I've driven over here built since 2000. I think it's a good system as it's pretty idiot proof when mounting a child seat which is pretty handy for someone like me :P I've tried to attach a diagram which may or may not work. The insertion guides are only used when fitting the seat (come with the seat) but the anchorage points are what you're feeling for.

Will attempt to PM you re dealer Lakes.

Cheers.

Hi Steve,

So you're telling me I went out in the dark and cold (6 degrees C) to take photos for nothing!

Well, just went out in the drizzle :crying: and checked where you said and guess what they are in the diesel as well... It's quite funny actually as there are little tags on the back seats just above the seat belt buckles that say Isofix (guess nobody's noticed them!

Cheers,

Dazz

P.S. I'll send you the account for my flu shots

stevp,

Us Aussies are a little slow. And to think that we have got something in our i30s that we didn't know we had. Whoopie!

Found this link as a start:
http://www.standards.org.au/cat.asp?catid=...ntid=191&News=1

Thanks again stevp, my knowledge has been expanded. Might come in handy with the grandkids.

That's good news about the Isofix. Thanks for having a look, even if it was in the rain (chicken soup is good for flu I've heard).

Now, anyone able to tell me about service intervals and costs?

Service intervals:

Major services at intervals of 15 000km (or 12 months)
Cost I believe is around $300 (CRDi)

Interim service halfway between at intervals of 7 500km (or 6 months).
The interim services is a recommendation but is not compulsory. I will be having this service done (cost around $120). Actually, my wife is taking our i30 in for this service tomorrow.

I was told for Uk Crdi 1.6

No interim service after running in which for most cars is usually 1000 miles.

First service 12 month or 10, 000 miles and cost £150'ish

2nd service 24 month or 20 miles and cost £250'ish

3rd year 36 months or 30,000 miles cost unknow but between £150 -£200

4th year BIGGY £280 - £300

5th year back to year 1 and 3 year cost.

Why do we in UK not have an interim service??????

Hey Shambles,

Just worked out why god gave you such a good sense of humour... with a body like Buddah and really short legs, you would need a sense of humour.

Cheers,
