Playing around with the radio settings today, does anyone know what SDVC and Scroll do in the menu?

I didnt get a radio manual, only an i30 owners manual.

If the battery is removed, does a PIN have to be entered to get the radio working again?

I believe that one meaning for SDVC is " speed dependent volume control" .

My last car (2004 VZ Calais) had that.....you could set the volume to match the car's speed so that as the car sped up, and the engine and road noise increased, the volume of the radio/CD would also increase automatically to compensate. And of course as the car slowed the volume dropped. Very handy little option to have......

I didn't realise it was an option on the i30, must have a closer look at my radio tomorrow.

Not sure about the scroll function and resetting the radio code after battery removal.....so there is nothing in the manual about it?? It's late here and I don't wanna go outside to get mine...sorry..I'll check that tomorrow as well.

Russ..

My radio manual is part of the owners guide, section 4.

Just been outside to try mine, and SCROLL (if on) allows the whole of the current track's filename to be displayed, in sections of around 4 seconds a time. When turned OFF, the whole filename is shown once, then it stabilises on showing just the first line of the name.

SDVC, I'd totally missed that one, so I've set mine ON and will test the effect later on today. Forumula 1 Barcelona race about to start :)

Hi Folks,

Looking forward to testing that SDVC function (bit too cold down here to go out now)

That reminds me.. tested the heated mirrors this morning (comes on with the rear demister).

Most impressed, rear window and mirrors clear a a bell in only a couple of minutes.

Some of my previous rides haven't cleared the back window in under 5 and never had the luxury of mirror heaters before (very handy down here)

Rgds,

Dazz

Well I don't know what exactly the SDVC is meant to achieve, but it made diddly squat difference to my listening experience when I was listening to an Enya album. I entered the motorway at volume 12, roughly doing 40mph then reached 85 mph and it stayed the same volume.

Then again, there's very little sound apart from tyre roar at that speed anyway in the i30 - such is the quality of the soundproofing anyway :)

I tried the SDVC today and never noticed anything different. Don't know what it is supposed to achieve. Shall have to read the manual thoroughly tonight.

Found a bit more about SDVC

Not of much use really, but it is a confirmation of the above meaning of SDVC referred to by Seoul-mate.

http://www.hyundaiforum.com/m_12807/tm.htm

It is interesting that this has come from another Hyundai Forum. This forum has yet to have an i30 section.

Now for the interesting one. Perhaps if what Dazz and I found through our experiences the first time we tried this feature is correct, we should refer to SDVC by this meaning of the acronym:

"SDVC, Straight Down Volleyball Club that trains in Clinton, Massachusetts, MA."

Tried it (SDVC) again on the way home from work. It may be too subtle to notice. I set the volume to an acceptable level while travelling at about 100kph (setting 9). I never touched it again. I must admit it never appeared to get too loud when I slowed down that I felt like I had to reduce the level.

Perhaps that is the way it works, namely, very minor changes in volume without changing the numerical setting.

What do others think?

Bob

Hi,

Set my SDVC to "on" this morning and tried it out........and found what most others that have done this have already reported..... ie. SDVC DOES BUGGER ALL !!!

I have already mentioned in an earlier reply to this thread that my previous car had this feature and it worked brilliantly!!! So it is very disappointing that the i30 SDVC is so "useless". Might take it up with my dealer when the car is next in for a service......just maybe a possibility that something has to be programmed in to make it work effectively????

Right then. As we're all agreed that this SDVC is as useless as a chocolate fireguard, I'm going to email Hy Tech and get the lowdown.

Tried it again today. If it working, it is so minimal that I can't detect it. I was hoping for something, but NO!

Hey, but don't tell the girls in this family about the "chocolate" bit, or they will want to sample it. Endorphins, they say. My 12 year old daughter salivates at the meer mention of chocolate.

That word should be filtered (ch*****te)

Checked my SDVC setting and as it was OFF turned it ON.

Level set to 8 and driving "normally" on the motorway.

Accelerated to pass traffic and the volume increased to account for the increase in road noise.

Reduced speed - volume reduced.

Hmm I wonder if it's level dependent too? Like Bob set his to 9 and noticed no difference. I usually have mine set around 23-30 depending on the audio level of the USB tracks I listen to and noticed no difference.

Still not heard back from Hy Tech yet.

Yeah I like my musak loud :gitara:

Reply just received, seems to confirm what we all thought, sort of...

QUOTE
Thank you for your enquiry.

SDVC stands for 'Speed Dependent Volume Controller', which is intended to
adjust the volume of the radio based on the speed at which the vehicle is
moving.

The volume change will subtle however; if you feel that the function is not
working at all, we would advise you visit your local Hyundai dealership who
will be able to verify if the function is in full working order.

I hope you find the above information useful and please do not hesitate to
contact us should you require any further inforamtion.

Kind Regards,

I think I've sussed this feature out.

Tonight coming back from work the radio station started playing a particular favourite of mine. As I was on the motorway cruising at 80 mph I swung the volume right up using the dial on the audio panel.

Then as I approached my exit road I slowed down and low and behold, the volume decreased. Noticably.

So, I'm wondering if the device doesn't raise] the volume for faster speeds, but merely lowers it. Possibly when set using the dial not the steering wheel control. I'll try that out tomorrow.

Shamble,

You might be right. Shall have to try that one out myself.

Read through some earlier post on this thread and noticed someone had a question about the security code on the radio - stereo. Well, I have the answer to that one. I removed my battery (playing around again) and there is no security code required. Lost my radio tuning and the like however.

Also lost some of my trip computer data. How do I know this? Well, my distance to empty has now plummeted to low 600k after filling up - it used to be in the low 900k region. Where has my 300k gone? :rant2: NOT HAPPY :rant2:
