Hi Guys,

I recently discovered something strange about my Getz and want to find out if it happens to all, or just mine.

I had some issues with the central locking remotes just failing to work on occasion, which could be fixed when the keys were 're-synced' in the ignition. Hyundai replaced the Body Electronics Control Module after a series of service centre visits.

This problem was occurring before the replacement of the module, and still happens now.
If I lock the car with the remote as usual, then unlock it with the key on return (instead of the remote) - the alarm goes off when i open any door.

The same thing happens whether I unlock form the drivers or passengers side.

Is this normal??

Thanks.

Yes very normal !!

The remote activates the alarm, you then open the door (either by using the key, throwing a brick through it or whatever) and the alarm goes off becuase it hasn't been deactivated.

If the remote ever breaks for some reason then you are able to turn the alarm off with a special code of key turns in the ignition. (I think that's what the book said anyway).

PS Welcome to the forum ! It's pretty dead here mostly. Whereabouts are you?

That's really annoying.... but then again.. how much can you really expect from a car that you can buy brand new for under $13k!!!? lol.

My last car (Nissan Maxima) used to have the same setup, except if you opened with th key, it deactivated the alarm (e.g. smash a window or leave a friend locked in the car [did that a few times deliberately ;P] and open the door form inside.. alarm will go off).

I guess I had better dig out that key turn sequence just in case i need it one day. :S

Cheers for the Welcome. I'm from Melb
