Hi,

first post to this forum, only bought the vehicle today! Should receive it in the next month (hopefully in the next couple of days).

I found this forum a couple of days ago when looking for real world prices for i30s from the dealerships, and thought I would now post the deal I got. Could be useful to someone trying to negotiate something in future.

I have purchased:

- i30 SLX CRDi
- Manual transmission
- Metallic paint
- Cruise control (after market, but included in price)
- Floor mats

List price for this, including dealer delivery, is $29,205. I negotiated this down to $27,755 a discount of $1450.

On top of this, there was the usual stamp duty and rego.

I traded in a Holden Calais VTII 1991 model, 114K on the clock. We decided on $8K credit for this trade-in. Glass's guide says $7K maximum for a model with 150K on the clock, so I thought $8K pretty fair for my one.

So, it seems to me that though the i30 may be selling like hot cakes (and why not!?) the dealers are still willing to cut a deal when pushed.

I found the dealers pretty straight forward and pleasant to talk to, much better than my last purchase (Holden, never again!).

Cheers.

Congrats on your new car, they didnt give you a firm delivery date?

8K for a Holden Calais, unbelievable, what was once a $55K car, was it a V6, SC6 or V8?

Of course there are great deals to be had if you have the finances, it all boils down to which dealer wants your business.

With interest rates up, fuel and thus living costs up, inflation on the rise, less people are buying cars and houses, they have to sell what they have, it cant sit in the yard or showroom, because its money which bleeds away.

The price is ALWAYS negotiable, dont let a dealer convince you otherwise, thats their job.

Never paid full retail price for cars, never will in future.

Hi Turbo1600,

Yes, depreciation on the Calais was a killer, at least it's tax deductable (for me anyway).

I think it is a combination of the fuel prices and australian build which gives it such poor residuals. It was a V6 by the way.

The dealer is sourcing me a new CRDi from the other dealers in Melbourne, I was not too fussy about the colour so this was an option for me (decided that silver, grey or vivid blue was okay) and they expect to get it to me pretty soon. Apparantely, the third party who has agreed to take the Calais needs it quick.

Cheers.

Hey Spinach,

Welcome to the forum...

also check out: www.phpbb88.com/i30ownersgroup

Don't like spinach but like your choice of model (guess you might have chosen green if they came in that colour :P .

Our little survey would suggest the SLX CRDi is by far the most popular model with the SR being the other popular one. You won't be disappointed.

Hope delivery is quick and painless...

Rgds,

Dazz

Hi Spinach,

'Sounds like you got a good deal.
With mine, I managed to negotiate an '08 manual SR with metallic paint for 26K drive away. It was in the yard (i think that makes a BIG difference) and i was able to pick it up 3 days later. There are also 3 other dealerships within 20 mins drive from the dealership i bought it from, so it would have been easy to play one off the other. A lot of things were working in my favour, and at the end of the day, i got a great deal on a car i'm very happy with.

I hope you're as happy with your i30 as i am with mine.

Tim.
