Hi All, just picked up my car 2 hours ago and absolutely looooooooovvvvvvvinnnnnng it, except for the super strong diesel fumes(my garage still smells like diesel!) and the headrest.

I'm surprised no ones complained about the headrests before? They are really uncomfortable and seem to kinda push your head forwards not to mention a bit too hard(is it cos i have the SX?). Is anyone else finding it uncomfortable too?

Is there a way to change them?

Hi chb,

No problems with ours. No complaints at all.

Re the diesel fumes. Yes, they can be annoying, but so can petrol fumes. Only issue with petrol fumes is you can't smell the buggers but they are there and you breathe them in non-the-less. At least with diesel, you know.

Hint: When you stop the diesel i30, make sure you let it run for a while at idle. If you just pull up and switch it off like you would a petrol, when you start it, you will experience the biggest cloud of diesel smoke you have ever seen from a tiny car like an i30.

Hi chb. Glad you got yer motor :) Get some pics in the "garage" (main page, halfway down on the left)

I don't like the sound of that diesel smell (or is that the smell of the diesel sound).

My headrest is fine. I don't rest my head against it while driving, although as you say they are a little pokey-forwardy.

Hi Shambles, like you i don't really rest my head when i'm driving but i care about my passenger(missus) haha and she's not happy with it! :)

Is your seats sorta like greyish with the headrest black? I thought it was a weird colour match.

Will try to get pix up by the end of the weekend!

It's got nothing to do with her. Tell her to keep knitting :)

No mate. I got the UK "Premium" model which is all leather matching seats, headrests, steering wheel and gear stick. All black.

After your first post I went outside to check. At a second glance it would have been neat if the headrests tilted. If they had been tiltable I wouldn't have just damaged the top of my seat where the headrest height lock is :( I pulled it away from the seat, although it's barely noticeable. :w00t:

Hi CHB,

Congrats on the cars arrival and on the two keys.

My wife also complained about the headrest protruding too far forward (It's a safety feature i believe). She fiddled with the angle of the backrest and managed to find a good compromise.. where the headrest wasn't annoying her... (it's a miracle - she's happy , take a photo someone quick...)

 Dazz

Hey guys. Following this post I just had a read of the sales brochure. It says I get "active headrests".

So I went out and had a look. Guess what? Adjustable forward tilt. I just couldn't see that earlier when I had a play.

Just takes a push from behind to release a lock, then it seems to be highly sprung upto the point where it's required.

Anyone else got "active headrests"?

(Close-up shots aren't too clever on my mobile)

I don't have an I30 but the headrests in the Tucson do the same thing.

Hi Shambles,

Thanks for bringing that to our attention... I read the active headrest feature but have watched mine for hours and they hadn't done anything. :P

Mine are the same as yours but were already set as far back as they'd go.

It will be good if CHB can move his back further, combined with a bit of adjustment to the backrest angle he may be able to apease his "significant other" - "hope the wife doesn't read this thread!"

Cheers,

Dazz

Watch it Chum....

Funny you should say that... I was buying some "hairy lemon" tablets from a Pharmacy/Chemist (not sure what you guys call them) a while back. (they are an effervescent vitamin tablet like Berocca) and told they attractive young assistant that they worked well...

Said "I usually got up 6am or earlier and was still bright and chirpy at 11pm" :hyper:

She said" Old people don't need much sleep" ... :crying:

Usually I get mistaken for being younger (got a baby face) Lucky I wasn't trying to chat her up...

Rgds,

Dazz

I've had a read of the manual and discovered a few things about head restraints on seats.

Please refer to 3-5
Active headrests (if equipped).
"..... designed to move forward and upward during a rear impact."

I believe that is the spring loaded motion most of us can feel (Australia). Australian i30 has this feature. I don't want to try this safety feature out to check what my wife thinks of it. Our Getz has this type of front headrest.

Over the page to 3-6
Forward and backward adjustment (if equipped)
"The headrests may be adjusted forward to 3 different positions ....."

I believe this feature is not fitted in Australia (but the bloody kiwis have it). Don't know about the UK, Europe, Korea, etc.

What can everyone else deduce? I hate to be the bearer of bad news for us Aussies.

Bob

Oops,

I made a BIG mistake.

The SLX headrests have forward and backward adjustment in Australia. I discovered this by accident today as I was driving along. I pulled the rest forward and heard it click. Did it again and click, click. Fiddled a bit more and sure enough, it has three positions. Pull it completely forward and it returns to the most backward position.

I feel a real :imsorry: DILL :imsorry:. Refer to previous post by me where I made a real **** of myself.

I need a :grouphug:

Its ok Bob, everyone makes mistakes *pat pat*

How do we click it into place and make it stay there?
I noticed that its already at the furthest back it can be and its still so far forward!
