andyman is right.  I don't know if it is a limited feature or on all azeras but the windshield (on mine at least) has 2 defroster like stips at the bottom for warming the windshield wipers so they don't freeze or stick to the glass in cold weather.  I, like many I'm sure, had no idea this was even a feature until the glass came off the car.  The glass company my insurance carrier uses has to get them from Hyundai, which is good because then I know I still have OEM glass.  My glass company told me that the dealer is the only place you can get the windshield with the heaters (maybe just in my area?).  They do make an aftermarket windshield but it doesn't have the strips.

The glass company got it right the first time they replaced...probably cause I insisted on OEM glass.  The last time they did it they brought the aftermarket glass without the heater strips and had to go back to the dealership to get the correct one.

I wouldn't worry about replacing the glass though.  My guess is it will be with the exact same windshield that came on the car.

Thanks for the shared info. Because of you and the others who responded to my question, I feel well prepared should I ever have to get the windshield replaced.

Thanks for the comments guys. Brazzel, what did you tangle with? No visible contrasting paint samples. Andyman, your windshield damage looks a lot like my neighbors Beemer after a Halloween pumpkin toss vandlism.

If memory serves, I think it had something to do with a tire, a ditch, some trees and a MOUNTAIN? :P

Thanks for the up-date on your experience. Sorry it was a bad one.

My windshield does have the heater strips in it too. Fortunately, I really don't have to do anything about the little chip now and probably won't for a long time.

It might be worth the effort to go to a windshield place and have them fill in that chip with the acrylic resin contraption they use. At least this way you'll "never" have to worry about it spidering out. :)

They even sell the little DIY kits to do this for about $15 or so.

I had the windshield replaced on another vehicle we owned due to a stone chip/crack thrown up by a passing truck. Then within 6 months we got another one on the same vehicle. That time it was small enough that I used the repair kits available at auto parts stores etc. It worked quite well. The glass repair shops can do a good job too on slightly larger cracked areas. It is best to get it repaired as soon as possible after the damage. That way it helps prevent the cracks from spreading. Once moisture and contaminants get into the crack it is more difficult to get good results.
