Hello everyone,
I am in the middle of the gulf region, I have been here for 4 months and I am planning to stay here at least another 3 years. I am in the middle of the desert but in a major city, no one speaks good English this doesn't make things very easy for a day to day living.
Anyway lets get to the question, I am buying a TUCSON 2.0 model 2006, still under warranty from the manufacturer. I want to leave a deposit on it tonight, the only thing that is posing a problem is when I test drove it, yesterday everything was really really really good condition with only 31000 km and I wanted to leave the deposit.

The question is when I put the car in 4WD and I do a full lock with the steering wheel because I want to turn around for example there is noise coming from the front wheels, on the other hand, if I do it with the 4WD off, there is no noise.
Is this normal?
I believe that yes beause the back wheels are pushing the car but if someone that owns the car could confirm it I would be very happy...

I am really looking forward going to the desert with the Tucson and my yamaha quad.

I will put some picture on the forum if possible.

Another question while I am here, What are the biggest wheels I can put on the Tucson and do you think I can drive from Yemen (South of the Gulf region to Senegal West Africa); is this 4x4 reliable enough for a 10 000 km journey across the desert and jungle and etc... or shall I get the 2.7 engine???
Thank you for your advice...

The 4WD lock can only be used on slippery surface conditions.
If you try a close turn on a normal road, you can broke the transmission.
The reason of the noise is that when you push the lock button, the two axels are spinning at the same speed, but when you make a close turn, some wheels turn faster then others (due to the different radius of their paths), so the transmission is sufferinf as the wheels cannot slip to absorbe the extra power on the inner wheels...
So DO NOT USE THE 4WDLOCK IF YOU ARE NOT ON SLIPPERY SUERFACE (MUD, SNOW, SAND...)

Hi
Really the tuc is in 4wd and switches on and off automatically when it needs to. |Hyundai say 4WD System with Torque on Demand and Lock in Function so you don't have to engage the lock as Tucson Spain has advised its for constant sand , mud and snow use and is only good till 21mph when it switches offf to prevent damage,
Have a look at the Hyundai Tucson blurb at http://www.hyundai.co.uk/newCars/tucson/
