Hi All,

My wife just got her 2008 Santa Fe GLS and we were wondering if there is a way to have the door locks automatically lock when you start moving.

Thanks!

There sure is. The dealer can have the vehicle programmed to lock with a choice of differnt speeds. I cjhose 25 MPH (40K). My dealer changed this for no charge on Friday. It takes three or so minutes and i was not charged. The vehicle is hooked up to an HYUNDAI OBD device, a portable computer, and thats it. My service advisor did it and once again "NO CHARGE"

I chose "automatic lock as soon as the vehicle ignition switch is turned to the on position".

When vehicle ignition is turned off, "Only the Driver's door unlocks automatically".

I chose the latter due to safety reasons. I don't want all doors to unlock, especially if My wife or I am alone in the vehicle.

The options are numerous. Choose wisely and always choose for the SAFEST options.

I can understand why someone would want to doors to lock immediately, but why at a certain speed? Would an intruder be more likely to try and open the doors after it reaches 25 mph?

Just wondering. :)

I have always wondered about that myself. Defies all common sense, doesn't it?

Allows someone to jump in at the last minute ?
My former Saturn Vue would lock the doors when the car went in Drive.
Unlock the doors when put in park. That was neat.

I took my wifes 2008 LTD in today to have the the locks programmed.

My dealer said that all they could do was : doors lock at 20 Km per hour & drivers door would unlock only when the drivers door handle is opened.

I asked for it to lock in drive & unlock in park but they said could not do.

Someone at Hyundai Canada better get off their a__ & look what other Manufactures offer as standard equipment at the level that the Santa Fe is at.

When we first looked at Hyundai products we were very impressed but it seems they forgot the little things that make a great product. Also no delayed lighting upon exit or entrying the unit re headlites.

Sorry to hear about the "Canadian" door locks. The U.S. Models have many options.

Here is a direct quote from my previous post. I assume you already read it but I'll include it anyway.

("I chose "automatic lock as soon as the vehicle ignition switch is turned to the on position. When vehicle ignition is turned off, Only the Driver's door unlocks automatically".)

Either your dealer is totally inept and should not be in the car business or there are major differences between the U.S. and Canadian Santa Fes.

I agree with you regarding the delayed headlight scenario with the Santa Fe. My Azera does not have that feature either. As a result, I designed my own lighting by tying in underbody LED lighting to the interior lights. Now I get all the light I need when either approaching or leaving my vehicles and the high powered LEDs don't drain my battery.

In any event, Hyundai products are still great. I think if you do your homework, you will find comparable vehicles of different manufacturers cost considerably more, all things being equal, and you don't necessarily get as good of a warranty.

By the way, I really don't agree with you that one or two minor things that the Santa Fe does not have as standard or optional equipment makes it LESS than a GREAT PRODUCT.

Check Kelly Blue Book (KBB.com) regarding the 2007/2008 Santa Fe. Read the revues. They are quite impressive.

Happy motoring :)

I had the dealer disable the autolock feature, I don't understand why you would want to lock your doors while the vehicle is moving... I live in Canada, I'm not scared of someone carjacking me at a red light, heck on most nights, I forget to lock my front door :w00t:

I don't think it's only for avoiding carjacking (which in some areas is very important); I think it is also a safety feature as it relates to body integrity in an accident, especially in a roll-over.

Does anyone have the options to have the door locks lock and unlock automatically. I have been told so many different things. I have been told they can only lock at certain speeds. I want them to lock when the car is put in drive and unlock at park. I would also accept them locking and unlocking when turning the ignition on and off. If anyone could please help me I would appreciate it. My car is a 2007 Santa Fe Se.

Fred, the unlocking part isn't needed for people in the front. The front doors will open from the inside just the same whether they are locked or not. To open the rear doors, the small lock lever by the door handle has to be flipped by the passenger to get out. My kids have problems doing so. You will need to do a power unlock of some sort (switch or remote) to open the hatch.
