Hi,

It seems there are quite a few Sonata drivers who have installed Eibach or H&R springs. Have you guys run into any issues with the Hyundai Factory warranty on your car after you them installed? I drive an Azera and bought a set of H&R springs, however my Hyundai dealer tells me it would void the warranty on the drive train.

Any experiences?

Thanks

This will NOT void your warranty on your powertrain just your suspension. Dont let them give you that bull! Go to a diffrent dealer!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson-Moss_Warranty_Act

To be candid, I never read this thing. Hoever it is my understanding that for a dealership to not cover a repair under warranty due to a modification, it must provide clear evidence that the modification caused the problem.

I just had a factory shock fail WITHOUT having lowering springs on the car and they immediately asked if I had modified the suspension, while eyeing up my aftermarket wheels and tires.

Good thing I waited until spring to put the Eibachs on. :)

Sorry to awaken this sleeping thread. As some of you might know already, I have Eibach Pro's installed and they're nothing short of great.

Also on another post, I described a loud banging sound that I get when I hit a rather deep hole or unusually high/sharp bumps on the road.

Those noises have become a little more frequent now and I'm worried. The car's front also feels a lot more floaty than I remember it to be when I first had the springs installed.

To confirm, today I rocked the front end up and down to see how the travel was - although it was nothing like a totally wasted shock that nods up and down at least 3 times, it felt really soft. And before anyone else says it's might just be in my head (LOL!), there's another NF V6 Sonata (a neighbor's) that I rocked up and down. What a difference. I could barely compress the thing.

I would really hate to go to the dealer and ask for a warranty replacement only to be turned away and told that the Eibach's caused it. I'm aware of the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act but I'm not sure how much that will help if the dealer really breaks my b*lls about it.

What'cha guys think?

I seriously doubt they are going to cover any suspension components if you have aftermarket springs...right or wrong...they will be hands off.

It really wouldn't be worth it, but you could swap them back out...but it would be easier to just go it on your own.

Sure would not hurt to call another dealer and just ask the service guy. If they say no problem...drop what you are doing and drive it over while he is still there.

My fear exactly. What really sucks for me is that there are no aftermarket struts for our car yet. Not that I'm aware of anyway. If there were any, I definitely wouldn't mind having those installed out of pocket.

But let's pretend for example that I do end up taking it to the dealer, they successfully prove the Eibachs caused it and I end up paying for everything. They're still going to end up installing the same parts they took out. Now it's just a matter of time before they fail too.

Of course, this does not completely eliminate the possibility that they were defective to begin with. I used to say that the front was noisy anyway so that may have eventually led to where I am now, even if the Eibachs were not installed. It's a longshot but I thought I'd say it anyway.

I agree in that I think most dealers will say the springs caused the problem (assuming the problem is suspension related). To fight it probably isn't worth the hassle too.

Well, at least I know the struts are not completely trashed. Yet. How soon they will be is anybody's guess.

I wish Eibach had something like K&N's policy wherein they will actually call your dealer if they claim K&N's products caused something else to fail.

I guess I'll just call the service manager at my favorite dealer and see what he thinks.

OR.....OR!!!...... if you kept the old equipment, you can take it to your favorite shop and have them change em out before you head back to the dealer wanting it covered by warranty! I've done this on a few different parts in the past. They see original parts and dont usually question anything :)

Just a thought!

Changing springs is expensive enough to make this a moot point.

$200 to reinstall the stock springs, go get it repaired, then another $200 to install the lowering springs again....
I don't recall the invoice value for the shock I had replaced but it was way under $100.

I doubt labor to replace shocks is any more than it is for installing springs so you may end up spending exactly the same cost to snooker the dealer.

Dave, I actually still have the OEM springs with me (you'll never know when you'll need them again!) but as dogstar pointed out, it's going to be an awful waste of money to swap them back in just for warranty purposes. It's going to be cheaper for me to just pay for parts and labor at the dealer rather than spend $240 for each swap job.

I already let my service guy know what my problem is and although he agreed that the Eibachs should not ruin the shocks, ultimately it's not his call - it's the Hyundai rep's. I'll be calling him again tomorrow to find out what day the rep's going to be there so they can look my car over.

Wish me luck.

You know Norm I agree with some here, go in with your current setup, with doughnuts of course...2 dozen at least and plead your case if "needed". "Hey guys how's my favorite service deptartment doin' today" kinda a thing. If you get turned down or they find one of your springs have failed go another route. $5.00 can't hurt. Trust me, it can help. Better yet, a couple of cases of Bud/Miller lite. No Kokanee. What do you have to lose? Maybe a  with the service guys. Now theres a way to gain friends. :amen:

yeah, I realized the cost and time might suck; I actually had a friend that did the stuff himself with a lift in his garage so he would trade stuff out like that occasionally if he felt that the warranty might not cover an AM part issue. Just a thought! He used a weekend to change stuff out and then dropped the car off at the shop. lots of drinkin and cussin involved to stay within the warranty... heh

Car's scheduled to go in on Monday morning. As optimistic as I usually am concerning most things in life, I'm bracing myself for one of the following:

1. "It's within factory specs"

2. Your springs caused them to fail.

LOL!

Hey Normandelli. I know the probability of this working may be low, but what about the OEM V6 struts or better yet, the 2009 “sport” struts? I believe they are firmer and should fit. The 2009 “sport” struts could be ideal.
