I have recently financed a 2008 Hyundai accent sport. Prior to that I had a 2003 GS (the non-sport, non-base model). The break-in period according to the 2008 manual (amoung other things) states that you should be under 88km/h for the first 2000km. The whole break-in period is outlined with this 2000km bracket. I have had the car for 2 weeks, and have put 300km on it. I generally only drive my car 8-10k km a year, so 2000km generally is about 2-3 months worth of driving. Given the upcoming summer cottage/driving season and that this is my only car, is this reasonable?

I have taken it on the highway at a max speed of 100km/h and likely a combined distance of less than 7km. However, prolonged driving at this speed on GTA highways is borderline suicide.

I want to keep this car (obviously) and had basically zero issues with my 2003 and would like to keep it that way.

Should I try to put some more km's on it and maybe change the oil prior to making treks up north and what not?

Is this break in reasonable?

Same issue as me, i figured i`d keep it around 80 as much as possible, and it is hard ..I dont have to drive on the 400 series too much though ..

I`m going to change my oil @ 2000km ( I know the users manual says 6000km, but i dont want the slop from running it in going around my engine any more that it has too. )

You can only go by the manual, it does sugest the distance for a reason.

If you can do an oil change yoruself, head north and at 6000km change teh oil to which ever oil you want. If you ask which is the best oil to goto, my signature should ask that.

Mine was driven approximately 105km/h on the way home from the dealership with only 30? km on it .No problems at all I have 19200 on it now. After the initial couple thousand kms it is better to drive it like you will be driving it from now on to help seat the rings and bearings better to the type of loads it will recieve.
OH :00000732: by the way

I just drove mine like I normally would----kept it around 4000rpm's----not beatin it---not easy on it----changed the oil at 3000 miles.

I wouldn't worry much about break in----they're tougher than you think.

I always found if you keep gentle on any new vehical for the first few 1k or so, it`ll be worth it in the long run.

BTW .. just changed my oil and filter at @ 2000km .... Dealer will still get it at 6k, but the next 4k may take a little longer that the last 2k .. M/C is out right now.

Hello,
I have a new 08 Accent SE. I have about 2600 miles on it and am getting ready to have my first oil change.
Any suggestions as to what oil to use? Would it be best to start the car on synthetic oil?? Or is that better for later in life automobiles?

100% true class 4 synthetic all the way. 50,000km oil changes, 25,000km filter change. Saving money! Getting great performance!

Get your oil changed regularly (3000) miles. I prefer Castrol GTX, been using it since it first hit the market. I really can't see the need for spending extra money on sythetics, unless your not going to change the oil like your supposed to or you drive a high end vehicle.

Just my opinion.

One dealer i have puts 5w30 in it, the other dealer put 5w20 regular dinopress..
the 5w30 one is my usual dealership I go to because all my maitenance is included, so all im responsible for is tires on my car and gas, insurance etc.
The 5w20 dealership I went to cause I couldnt make the 4.5 hr drive in..
Id like to use that amsoil because we seem to put alotta kms on our car. we bought ours this march, and were close to 12,000 kms now.
