So I have my Azera sitting in the parking lot today at work and I put the rear shade up and buzzzzzz it goes up no problem. ( 80 degrees today ) I get off work and start backing out of my parking spot and ......nothing. So I'm cruising down the road and it hits me ...Heeeeey that was supposed to go down when I put the car in reverse. Soooooo....I push the button......Crunch...grind...Snap !! And it gnarls all up and starts the grind grind click thing. I had to go back and push it down by hand............. It's dealer time. Think I have a wheel bearing going also.....Got a pretty wicked roar coming from rear of car. And a nasty rattle buzz thing from right rear door. I think she's mad at me for driving the truck or something :unsure:

Oh and after sitting for over a week and a half the battery was dead..................................................... Ok Ok......The trunk was open....jeeze !! :whistling:

D'oh! That sucks Braz. The sunshade in both of our cars makes onerous creaking, groaning and grinding noises once it settles back in its slot - like the motors are still trying to retract it even after it's all the way retracted. We hardly ever use them; I'm sure they'll just completely melt down sometime soon.

There is a TSB for the sunshade drive gear stripping itself.

No big deal...I have a great dealership, I'm sure ole Dave will hook me right up.

The wheel bearing thing may be from a ride over the edge of a mountain....But I'm not telling unless asked :innocent:

I've had the speaker worked on the rear door and I think they didn't tighten something enough. By the way...It wasn't the speaker it was the amp...They replaced it.

Hmm... I have a rattle coming out of right-rear suspension... sunshade doesn't quite seat correctly and strips its gears... the subwoofer in the rear parcel shelf rattles with any amount of sound pressure... some kind of metal deposit or stains on the rocker panels... my car came with a very slight alignment problem already installed...

You have a sunshade that has completely crapped the bed, rear bearings issue, speaker / amp prob w/ the stereo. The wallowing / clunking suspension over rough pavement.

I hope / think that the engine & transmission on these cars are solid and should last for some time but ... well I hate to say it, goodness knows I think the cars generally look & feel GREAT! But maybe - just maybe - they are Hyundais after all? :innocent:

Oh yes... and I have quite a bit of pinging at startup. It sounds like it's coming from the valvetrain but might be timing chain noise. Sometimes it doesn't go away until I start revving it up (even though the engine is warm) - under light throttle or no throttle it almost sounds like a diesel motor from inside the cabin.

Just to make everyone feel better (no, really, this is the only reason! :grin: ) I've had no problems since delivery (OK, some subwoofer vibe if I push it too much), save a $180 wheel-well plastic bits repair/replace from my running over a complete wheel assembly at 75 mph on an interstate. I use the rear sunscreen rarely, maybe once/month or less, usually when I see a Lexus 400 or a BMW 700 or a big Mercedes right behind me. :bwekk:

23,800 miles and movin' on. I'll take my first long trip next month (family visits). SW Florida to SW Tennessee to New Jersey to Florida, 3,000 + miles, overall...

I hate the sound of start up......I think this filter on top of the motor may be keeping oil from being pumped for a second or so. Don't like it...... And I agree...I hope the motor and such holds together also.... So far all has been good in that department. ( knock on wood )

Could the pinging be from the CVVT acting squirrelly? If oil pressure isn't getting inside the valves to adjust the timing properly for idle...

I wonder if a lighter oil might help? I think the stuff the car comes with is 5W20, that's already pretty light.

Edit: I'm not sure you can buy any readily-available oil any lighter than that... can you?

The Rear Sunshade is a POS. I am on my 3rd. It pretty much self destructs itself in the hot AZ summer sun here. (and my rear window is tinted pretty dark too.

It works on the lot - and more often than not, on the test drive. Once you buy the car it explodes. I guess that's the "bar" for quality that Hyundai defined for themselves.

To be fair, I'd be interested to know how Jag or Lexus rear sunshades hold up in the recent models.

I used mine pretty much daily, including in winter on those really sunny days. Has yet to explode (crossing my fingers), Had it since august 06 and am just about at 24k on it.

I use mine quite often as well and never have I had any problem with it. Having said that, I'm now sure that tomorrow morning it will self-destruct and probably take out the back window too.

Actually, by accident I tried to destroy it, but couldn't. While in Florida last month at the Red Sox spring training, four of us got into the car. My laptop was in its soft leather carrying case sitting in the back seat, so one of the back seat passengers set it up on the back shelf. Unknown to me, it was jammed up against the raised screen. We drove to a restaurant for lunch and when we got back into the car, I proceeded to back out of a parking space. Of course as soon as I put the car in reverse. the screen began to go down with the case jammed up against. The screen got all mangled up and stopped. I immediately threw the car into park and the screen went back up and straightened out. We moved the computer case off the shelf and I havenn't had another problem with the screen since.

I like the thing and used it alot. Gave no warning before destruct mode.....all the little plastic gears eatting each other alive.

Commendable that you folks have used it, commendable that it's good for a year or two for some lucky folks. I grew weary of the miserable creak and groan issued forth from the slot it rests in when I retracted the sunshade on either of may April 18th Azeras (yes, there are two, and yes, today is their first birthday, but no, I did not put cake in their gas tank). I bought ours in Nov. last year and the very 1st of Jan. this year, about 2 months apart. We have used the sunshades no more than during test drives. I'll be interested to see how they hold up during the next few months.

Back on subject. I think I am glad my little cheapo Azera has no rear window shade. :)
