has anyone else experienced jerkiness from a rolling start? like from a not-complete-stop stop sign maneuver. seems like it's between 1st and 2nd, and when i start to accelerate away from the stop sign or away from a turn, the revs go up, then it pops into 2nd. is there any way to fix this?!?!?!

When it's in drive, or Shiftronic mode?

I've noticed this and sometimes think it might be a little dangerous honestly. I've not asked the dealership about it to try and get it fixed. I just try to be gental in the situtation I think it might happen.

that's my thought exactly - not too much control when it jerks forward. i try to be gentle, but every once in a while, i still manage to get it to jump a little... i wonder if they can program the trans to shift better from first to second. i've noticed that even normal driving from a stop, first to second is a little rough...

My V6 does it. I have never been able to duplicate it at the dealership.

Yes, my car does it from time to time, and others here have been reporting it in the past.

As long as it's not doing it all the time, only occasionally, I can only attribute it to the COMPUTER (those erratic computers...).... And I can only hope/guess that Hyundai will come up with new software update.

Bottom line, as long as it's typical to so many others, and maybe EVERY 4G Sonata, there is no need to be worried that "something is wrong with my car"....

I get jerkiness at the point right between idle and actually moving. It only happens sometimes, its like the car cant decide if it wants to move or not until I hit the gas. But maybe thats normal.

Not happening with the four cylinder very smooth. Take it to the service department and let them know.

This has happened with my '08 Sonata a couple times. Kind of reminds me of driving a manual if one doesn't fully engage the clutch while shifting, you get that lag...jerky like feeling. Doesn't seem to serious to me, as it hasn't happened often but it has happened to me.

I've had this happen on other makes, once it was either the throttle position sensor and another time the oxygen sensor.

i'm not convinced it's an o2 sensor, it's not running poorly. Maybe you're right about the TPS... i dunno - i've gotten more used to it now and i can prevent it from happening... most of the time.

I do experience this on my dad's altima although it's a totally different engine 2.5 L 4 cylinder. I have experienced on my 4 cylinder as well but i think it's due to the computer. I have changed my driving style and I think it is affecting the way the car shifts now. I drive more like a grown person rather than a teenager. I got the car at a young age so I really pounded the gas all the time. Whereas now I accelerate moderately not too fast not too slow, enough most of the time and it's fine.

If I accelerate too slow such as in my subdivsion where kids are playing or somewhere like that the car does tend to jerk from 1st to 2nd. Almost as if it's 'jumping' if you will into second gear. I did look at the RPM gauge once and i noticed the needle flew up to get to second gear.

I'm blaming the computer and I might do a reset with the battery soon to try and resolve this.

Most likely this issue is due to the adaptive learning of the transmission. The car "learns" how you drive and will adjust shift points accordingly. If you are usually hard into the accelerator (like I am), then the car "learns" to be more responsive and shift quicker (because you are in the gas harder and it expects the rpms to rise quickly, therefore requiring a shift). However, once it learns this way, if you ever accelerate gently from a stop, or a near stop, as you are describing, then the car still expects your hard driving techniques and gets confused, shifting at the incorrect time and too quickly, resulting in the "bump", or harsh shift. My Accent does this on occasion as well, exactly as you are describing. It is not harmful, just annoying and at times embarassing... lol.
