QUOTE(PaulW @ Apr 15 2008, 09:34 PM) I've noticed this and sometimes think it might be a little dangerous honestly. I've not asked the dealership about it to try and get it fixed. I just try to be gental in the situtation I think it might happen.

that's my thought exactly - not too much control when it jerks forward. i try to be gentle, but every once in a while, i still manage to get it to jump a little... i wonder if they can program the trans to shift better from first to second. i've noticed that even normal driving from a stop, first to second is a little rough...

Yes, my car does it from time to time, and others here have been reporting it in the past.
As long as it's not doing it all the time, only occasionally, I can only attribute it to the COMPUTER (those erratic computers...).... And I can only hope/guess that Hyundai will come up with new software update.
Bottom line, as long as it's typical to so many others, and maybe EVERY 4G Sonata, there is no need to be worried that "something is wrong with my car"....

QUOTE(oceanax13 @ Apr 15 2008, 11:49 PM) I get jerkiness at the point right between idle and actually moving. It only happens sometimes, its like the car cant decide if it wants to move or not until I hit the gas. But maybe thats normal.
i think you may be describing what i am feeling too

QUOTE(Southsider1 @ Apr 28 2008, 08:58 AM) I've had this happen on other makes, once it was either the throttle position sensor and another time the oxygen sensor.
i'm not convinced it's an o2 sensor, it's not running poorly. Maybe you're right about the TPS... i dunno - i've gotten more used to it now and i can prevent it from happening... most of the time.

Most likely this issue is due to the adaptive learning of the transmission. The car "learns" how you drive and will adjust shift points accordingly. If you are usually hard into the accelerator (like I am), then the car "learns" to be more responsive and shift quicker (because you are in the gas harder and it expects the rpms to rise quickly, therefore requiring a shift). However, once it learns this way, if you ever accelerate gently from a stop, or a near stop, as you are describing, then the car still expects your hard driving techniques and gets confused, shifting at the incorrect time and too quickly, resulting in the "bump", or harsh shift. My Accent does this on occasion as well, exactly as you are describing. It is not harmful, just annoying and at times embarassing... lol.
