It's annoying me and I really want to do something about it. I think I remember reading somewhere that a guy put some cotton around it to quiet it down a bit (I can no longer find that post), but I want to disconnect it or at least put a resistor on it to quiet it down.

Has anybody found it, and if so, could you post pictures showing how to get to it? I want to find it, but I don't want to rip my car apart to get to it, so if somebody else has already found it, I'd love to hear from you.

I've heard about the solution for jamming the driver seatbelt sensor, but that still doesn't fix the door chime and I don't want to jam all the sensors.

You have to remove the center console to get at the module with the chime. I think that qualifies as "tearing the car apart." That's the only way to get at the chime. Once you expose it you can tape over the slotted area that the bong-bong screams at you from, but you have to get at the module first.

Dunno if you want to just quiet the li'l bugger or drive beltless. If it's the former, please ignore the following.

I think there's a way to kludge something with the seat belt buckle, but I will not discuss it. I've been a seat belt man since the day that seat belts saved Dad's life.

Yes, I wear my seatbeat all the time, but this warning sound should go off when the car is in gear, not the second the key is turned on. That being said, there is an easy way to stop this sound without taking the car apart. First you need about 10 minutes and a #10 security torks bit. The bit is not something you can find very easy, but there is a easy way around this. Pickup a #10 bit which you can find at most hardward or lumber stores. File the tip down so it is flat and drill a hole down the middle. A drill press is the best way to do this. Start slow and let the drill bit do the work. You need a hole only about 1/8" deep. Now go to the driver side seatbelt buckle and remove the two screws holding the case together. Now that it is open, buckle the seat belt and watch what it does. You should see a small plastic piece (red in color if I remember) with a little copper plate on it. As the buckle goes in it moves a contact from the copper piece to plastic . Just take a small screw drive or pick and pop that copper piece out. Before you put things back together just make sure your buckle clicks in like it did before. That plastic piece needs to be there for the buckle to work.
This only effects the seatbelt warning all other safety and warning features work just fine.

This is the fix.

I did it to my Sonata like 2 years ago and would not for one second go back and change it back. I enjoy all the beltless silent bliss I want (BTW I never drive without my seat belt.)

This does not effect anything so the airbags and such will all work just fine. In total the fix will take you less that 20 minutes. You might try just filing the torx down flat before drilling a hole in it. Also you might find it easier to drill the "nub" out of the screw in the seat belt latch.

Read this post down a few by rbuet. I did this and I am chime free. Thanks brother. A readily available torx bit works here just fine.

Darn I can drive around all day without my belt on and throw caution to the wind WITHOUT that annoying noise. :w00t:

I always wear it anyway, but I can go "beltless" while waiting for the car to warm up, at the bank, etc. Best "mod" I have done to date.

Here are more posts to various threads. Sounds like the two solutions are 1) the previously mentioned tampering with seatbelt itself (uncertainty about whether this sensor is connected to anything important besides the chime), and 2) muffling the chime itself. The chime is located under the center armrest/console.

It's a popular topic. Makes you assume that Hyundai doesn't read these posts or they would have changed it. My 2008 has the same problem.

I did it. I covered it with like 10 layers of electrical tape, a piece of foam, and then put a big rag kinda thing around it. It's a lot quieter now, but it's still annoying.

Seatbelt chime and airbag deployment. It is my understanding the bag will deploy softer if you are buckled in. May be wrong but I am always buckled in when the car is in motion so it doesn't matter.

What matters is is that my car has no seatbelt bonger.

I just fixed my annoying chime. I removed the 2 security torx screws of the buckle (driver's side) using a jeweler's screwdriver, then removed the small sliding black piece that holds the contacts for the sensor. After taping it into the buckle for future reinstall is ever needed (like upon resale), I reinstalled the screws. No more chime when the belt is not fastened, but the chime still works for all other functions, like key in the ignition and the door open. Since I ALWAYS wear my belt, I don't need a reminder to buckle up. PLEASE PLEASE, if you need a reminder to use your seatbelts, DO NOT DO THIS!!! Seatbelts really do save lives and lessen the severity of injuries. Good luck to all, and remember BUCKLE UP AND LIVE. Happy motoring :57:
