I just bought my 2004 XG abiut a week ago. Looks like I may need tires soometime this summer. I have always been a fan of wider tires so I was wondering how large have some of you have gone. I was thinking 225 but not sure if 235 will fit. Any advice?

Hi. My first replacement set of tires for 04xg350l was michelin mxv4+ 225-55r16. Looked great with chrome wheels and the wider tires but they sucked! Rode hard, noisy, hydroplaned, wore out in a hurry and rubbed the inside edge of the rear fender wells with a passenger in the back seat. I'm not sure cornering was any better...I wanted it to be, but it wasn't. The rear fenders cut the sidewalls up...cosmetic damage only.

Next set...215 60r16...mxv4+. Perfect! Great ride, wearing well, no more hydroplaning, less noise.

If you're looking for better handling, get rid of the factory struts. A set of kyb's makes way more difference than wider rubber.

I've seen a couple of xg's with 17" or 18" wheels & tires. Looks good, but I like the ride from near factory size more than the flashy wheels.

Good luck with your new car. I love mine. Most comfortable road car I've ever driven.

Mike
