I just bought a 2008 Hyundai Sante Fe Limited, and one of the things I was after was the ability to play mp3 CDs. This unit will do that, but I'm getting read errors at various points of the mp3 CDs I've burned. What I've done is burned audio books (tried both with and without chapters) using nero 6 to TDK 52x 700MB CD-Rs. I've also burned with several different burners. The failures occur at different points within each of the CDs- one about 30 minutes into the book; another goes all the way to 50 minutes within the book. When it fails, I just get a generic "read error," and the CD is ejected from the changer.
Has anyone else seen this problem? Does anyone know if some brands of blanks work better than others?
The sound is great, but the error is maddening as after ejection of the CD I have to try it all over again- in the case of the book without chapters, that means holding the FF >> until the approximate failure time (on another newly burned CD). Thanks, Garry

I've tried both CD-Rs and CD-RWs, and both multi-session and closed. I've even tried the (gimic and more expensive) "music" CDs.
Hyundai replaced my stereo unit under warranty, and the new unit is better, but still fails when it gets fairly well into the CD. Since a CD is burned from the inside out, its speed is greater as it gets further along towards the outside of the disc... I'm wondering if that's the problem...
I'm going to call the dealership again and have them register my issue, but I suspect this is either a design or manufacturing issue with the Infinity unit. I don't see any point in asking for another replacement, as unless they solve something I think it's destined to be an ongoing issue.

Hi gwgreen835. I just recently picked up a 2008 Santa Fe Limited with the Infinity system and I too am experiancing the same issues you had. I am just wondering if you ever got them resolved?
I did many of the same tests as you. Tried different disc brands and formats (CD-R and CD-RW, two different burners, different software and even tried the difference between track at once and disc at once, and I am closing all my discs. I am even able to predictably cause the error on a specific song, however, if I just burn that one song to a seperate disc it plays totally fine. So its not the mp3's, it seems to be the player. I had a 5 year old Alpine MP3 player in my old car and it would read virtually everything, never had a problem with it.
Has anyone else had this difficulty with the Infinity system and MP3s? Does anyone have a successful solution to this issue? I am not sure if its worth the dealer taking apart my dash if it doesn't fix the problem.

Hi torscotty, I did report the problem to Hyundai's customer service (actually spoke with a person), but no one contacted me back with any acknowledgment of a global problem nor a solution.
Since I had the dealership swap out my first unit and still had a problem, I didn't figure it'd help to do it again. In addition, the dealership left a few choice dashboard pry marks for me to admire as a result of the swap-out.
So I'm still in the dark on this, and living with it so far. I do check back here to see if anyone comes up with a solution, though.

Hello gwgreen835. I have found success using Vista's built in burner capabilities (I was using Roxio previously). By burning the CD with Vista and burning it at the slowest speed possible (make sure to close the CD) I find my MP3 CD's are more reliable and have not had one eject on me yet.
Now if I could only find out how to fix the annoying hum others have commented on. Its more of a high pitched sound which can be easily heard between Vol 1-9 (1 being the easiest since there is little music). Turn the car off and it goes away, turn it up and its just masked by the music. When I take my car in I will report it to the dealer but since I have heard others remark on it sounds like its a common issue?
Does anyone have any comment or fix for this? Or perhaps a TSB that has been released?
Thanks!

Thanks, torscotty, for the update. Something actually works BETTER with Vista? Amazing.
I'd been using Nero 6's burn engine. I'll give Vista's a try to see if I can duplicate your success. (I would not have thought the burn engine would make a difference.)
I had an FM modulator added by an aftermarket dealer, and now I pipe the output of either my iPod or my Garmin into the stereo most of the time. (That got me around the ejected mp3 CDs issue.)
As far as the hum/whine, I have heard it but my hearing in that frequency range is not what it used to be, so didn't find it to be troublesome. I'll pay more attention now.
Thanks again.

Hi torscotty, When you said Vista's built-in, did you mean Media Player or actually Vista's Mastered format? I'm unable to get the Mastered format to successfully burn a CD (I suspect Roxio's Media Creator is interfering) in other than Live Format, which is useless elsewhere. I COULD burn with Media Player, but haven't had a chance to test the CD yet. Thanks, gwgreen835
