If you're looking at modding the car right out of the gate, I would say look somewhere else. The Elantra doesn't have a very strong aftermarket following right now. You're going to be limited by what the ECU will accept. So cat-back exhaust, and a short-ram intake are about as far as you'll get.

I would recommend a Honda Fit or Scion xB or tC if you're buying new. Otherwise, let me know what your rpice range is and I can point you to some good bets on used cars.

Ahoy Elantra owners,

I myself am looking into getting an Elantra--it turns out the Accent is the 6th most dangerous car to drive according to Forbes "top 20"! IIHS rates the 08' Elantra's well for both front and side crash tests, so I'm off to trade it in this weekend.

I test drove a carbon(?) black SE this yesterday and I loved it. The steering is much stiffer and the 2.0l engine is a nice step-up. The extra amenities in the car are also nice: XM radio, AUX output, etc.

If you're worried about modifications, don't be. Sharkracing, KDMStuff, and Kspec are great online stores for the 08'.

*I just picked up the Avante emblems today*

Hope to post some pics next week!
