I have an aftermarket amp that I am thinking of installing with my aftermarket HU.
I would like to put the amp under one of the front seats. Are there any concerns with removing the front seat to do this ? Any Issues with me doing this ?

Also, where is a good place to route the power from the amp to the battery ?

Thanks
Joe

I have a 500 Watt under my driver seat, power wires are routed from the battery and through the firewall using the space where the clutch pedal would be, then along the door trim. Signal wires can be routed along the bottom of the centre console. Always keep your power wires and your signal wires seperate to reduce any interferance from being picked up.

Thanks Spawn,
Anything that I should be aware of when removing the seat ? I also assume that you had to take the center console out .. Is it just the screws along the side of the console ?

You don't have to take the whole console just the upper part (dark grey plastic. My only concern is that if you have the GLX 3.5L that you unplug the seat heaters before you try to lift the seat out. Removing it is just he 4 BIG bolts on the bottom, they're covered by the caps on the ends of the rails.

When you are makring the location for the amp, make sure that the rails do not interfere with them, and that you have easy access to the wires. Mine are all facing towards the front, so all i have to do is slide the seat all the way back to make any adjustments.

Thanks again

Did you have to drill a hole in the firewall for your power wire? I'm trying to find an unused rubber plug through the firewall but with no luck.

another concern that no one seems to have mentioned is the possible problem with your amp mounting location. In my expereince, mounting the amp under your (or any seat) can pose an overheating problem unless the amp and the area surrounding it has adequette or above average ventilation. I have a full setup in mine and i have the amp mounted to a board behind my subs for easy access to the capactitor as well. But i've often seen people trash amps because the heat has nowhere to escape and just roasts the amp.

BEHOLD!! The power of thread revival!

The distance between the top of the amp and the seat is twice the height of the amp itself so it has more than adequate ventilation under there. It really depends on how thick the amp is. It's been under there since 2004 and has never had any issues.

From an install point of view, I cringe if I see an amp/cap mounted to the boxes themselves as I've seen more than a few fail from being vibrated to death. All comes down to personal preference really.
