Hi,

I have a Lantra 1.6Si from 98 with 115k miles on the clock. My brake drums have become very rusty and are affecting handling now. I'm looking at replacing them, happy with second hand. Are these brake drum unique to this model or all Lantras or are they also the same to Accents, etc?

Sorry to jump in on the thread. I too have a lantra 1.6 si(99 though). I tried to remove the brake drum on Friday but i couldn't get it off. The two screws were removed and i tried bashing it off with a hammer.

Do you need to remove the wheel nut first? What should be done with the bent metal just in front of the wheel nut? Can it be simply bent out of place when removing the wheel nut and then bend it back after refitting the wheel nut? I believe its acting like a split pin.

Is there any way to slacken off the brake shoes before removing the brake drum? Just in case there is a lip on the brake drum.

Hope to hear a response soon,

Rob

I don't have a clue about the brake drums personally. If they are anything like the disc brakes then they probably awkward to get. When i bought front discs for my Lantra, Hyundai only produced about 6 months worth of Lantras with the discs that were on my car. (or so my local parts shop tells me)

Well, it's like this: u have to use a hammer and a screw driver to remove the nut that holds the drum (hit the nut with a cross-screw driver - careful so u don't damage the nut's head!). After that it's kinda easy to remove the drum - have to use a hammer again if needed. And don't forget to disengage the handbrake, when removing the drum, and safety first when rising u'r car!

cheers
