Has anyone got any thoughts on the interior lighting on the XG models? the lighting is so poor that as all you owners know it is almost impossible to read a map or anything else for that matter without finding a flashlight or sticking a miners lamp on your head. l have not been able to find any extra light fittings that will fit into the car and still look neat and tidy, has anyone found any lights that will fit into the car without spoiling the interior finish?

tried all that before guys, but as the vehicle is fitted with a dimming device using higher wattage bulbs burns it out, the only answer seems to be extra lights. very small 'eyeball' might do it but cant find any in the u.k. anybody know of any suppliers over the pond?

Montego, I own a 2000 Accent which I've installed rear seat lights fron map lights inaddition to the centre roof light, all three lights have a self dim up and down function upon door open, closure, and once manually turned on they do the same. I used for the rear lights the same small light fixture as hyundai have used in the boot compatment and luggage compartments. This light is cheap easy to install and very neat. Hyundai sell them in australia for around $8.00 each.

I've also used them in Mitsubishi's, Honda's, Suzuki's and I've even used them on my door lamps which portray the hyundai logo with an illuminated back ground.

If you're insterested I can tell you how to wire them up and what switches you need and how to place them. :)

thanks for the post johnc, i am still very interested in improving my interior lights on my xg's. l was interested in the post that betz698 made about converting the lights over to an l.e.d. system but l am somewhat uncertain about how much difference in brightness this will make. the lights that you have mentioned also sound interesting.do you know if thease lights can be posted over to the u.k by anybody in oz?. as you are probebly aware there is no dome light on the xg. only the front two 'map' lights which are on a dimmer and the two rear lights which have to be turned on manually. the wiring for any additional lights is not to much of a problem however it would be interesting to know which way you have done it.
l would be grateful for any further information about thease lights when tou have the time to reply, either in this collum or feel free to e-mail (coastmo@aol.com) regards roger

The Lights I mentioned are from the front glove compartment and rear luggage compartment, they are available world wide, as they are a standard Hyundai product. These lights are clear with a prismatic texture to prevent glare.

I designed my own Body control/ Electronic Control system that operates all the internal lighting and headlighting via a photocell, sensor. It sounds complicated but believe it or not I have two versions a cheap over the counter PCB unit and an expensive customised software unit. Obviously the expensive one being the better one. With your car I can show you how to wire the lights, it's so easy that it will amaze you. The hardest bit is trying to divert the wiring to roof space with out removing the roof, I managed it but it took a couple of hours.
By the way LED's are not suitable infact they reduce the light level as the existing prismatic covers deflect the lights the led's don't even shine through, don't waste your money, I tested them a few months ago and returned them soon after.

I can send a schematic if you need one ?????
