ok, i am thinking about getting the windows tinted before the summer comes down here.

I want to know what your experiences have been with tint. I am going to have a shop do it, because tinting is way too involved and I don't know what I am doing.

I just need it for heat reduction in the car - I don't care how dark it is because it is a station car and I drive the back roads to work.

So should I buy into the upgraded metallic films? Do they really work at deflecting heat?

thanks for the responses!

Hey Mods - I think I made a mistake. Maybe I should have put this somewhere else like the "interiors and exteriors" thread...???

Do a search on tint and you'll find a bunch of answers. Yes the metallic films work better, next step up from that is ceramics. www.tintcenter.com has all the info you might need. Compares colors/types so you can make the right choice.

Just know that if you have an in-glass antenna and get metallized or Ceramic you will lose most AM and some FM reception.....trust me....check my garage/posts about it.

It depends on the look you're going for, and how much you want to be able to see at night in darker places (not a lot of street lights, etc.). I've currently got 35% all the way around, and on other cars I've had 5%. Personally I don't think 5% looks right on the Sonata, and you can forget about seeing out the back window at night when you're trying to backup. Same goes for the side windows if you're making a turn at night, like turning onto another street in a dim neighborhood or similar. I used to have to roll my window down making a turn in our neighborhood since we are street light free !

Even though I currently have 35% if I had it to do over again I would go with 20%. The 35 is just a tad too light, although the wife loves it. But, it is very easy to see out of at night.

Here's a pic in my Garage of Gracie with 35%: 35% Tint
