(Yes, MiamiLX, I searched... Save it.. :bwekk: )
I have seen it both ways here.. Some say it is great, some say it will wreck your trans...
So, since I am due for a flush next month...
Amsoil ATF.. Yes! or No!.. And WHY?
If not Amsoil, what brand do you suggest? I am 100% going the Synthetic route, however!
(Relative posts only, please people.. No wars! Let's be adults, not Honda Owners!)
Thanks guys!

Not feeling Amsoil at $9.00 per quart. Would suggest Castrol "Import Multi Vehicle" ATF.

QUOTE(imfreejr @ Apr 7 2008, 06:01 AM) So does anyone have AMSOIL ATF in there car? If so how do you like it?
I am running Amsoil synthetic ATF. It seems do be doing great. However, the transmission is still stubborn as can be with downshifting. I can't expect the fluid to change the behavior of my transmission, but it's still running quite well, from what I can tell. Let me think, I changed it at about 25k miles and now it has 33k miles on it. I did a full flush of the old fluid to get the new stuff in. I wouldn't do it any other way. However, I'm hearing that this fluid will void the warranty as it pertains to the transmission. If I start having mechanic problems with it, I'd probably change out the fluid to the regular stuff before I took it in and complained about it. hope this helps.

QUOTE(terkar @ Apr 7 2008, 02:56 PM) How would the dealer know what fluid is in the tranny? I have used amsoil in chevy tannys and never had a problem---in fact it seemd to shift faster and smoother.
They test it. They are looking for SP111. "Meeting or exceeding..." does not mean SP111 approved. The Hyundai ATF is good stuff and cheap to boot. Why spend $9-10 a quart for an unapproved ATF that puts your warranty at risk? Makes zero sense.

QUOTE(craigbrooks @ Apr 7 2008, 11:13 PM) As a potentional customer I read a flaw in this. What is your take on this?
Edit: Sorry, my Honda owners side coming out.
No sorry needed. My only “hesitation” as it is right now is the information I have received via message boards about using the ATF in a SPIII application. I find it hard to believe Amsoil would recommend using it in an application where it would not perform better or at least as well as the factory fluid. I have read a few posts on the web where people claim that it caused a failure and Hyundai blamed the fluid and would not cover the repair. I truly believe that the fluid works as intended and it was the dealership that tried to push off the cost to the customer rather than have it covered. Most people just blindly believe what they are told and never follow up and request the documentation from the dealer in writing where they say the damage was caused by the fluid. Just saying the fluid was the problem in ANY application Motor oil, Transmission fluid, or any of the many other applications where a lubricant is required is just so wrong on so many levels that I don’t know where to begin. The component that failed has to be identified, examined, and the cause of that failure documented. A lubrication issue is different than a manufacturing flaw and they are not too hard to tell apart most of the time. I did ask the people that said they had problems with their dealer/manufacturers if they had requested written statements that the fluid caused their problems or if they went back to Amsoil and requested assistance and most of the stories just ended with I don’t know So, the hesitation you saw in my post where I said I will probably use it was in reaction to those stories I mentioned and because I have no personal experience with nor have any of my customers so I can’t stand here and say it is fine because I am using it for xxxmiles and its great, not in a lack of faith of the product and I will be using it when I do my first flush. I will document every aspect of my use of the ATF and will share the good and the bad, not that I expect anything bad. Everything I have used personaly has been top notch and has performed as advertised so I have no reason to doubt Amsoil product recomendations.

QUOTE(bobad @ Apr 8 2008, 02:58 PM) Agree 100%.
In fact, since Hyundai doesn't make ATF, it's an existing ATF re-labeled for Hyundai (just like their oil filters). Someone somewhere knows what it is, and if I find out, that is what I will use at 105,000 miles.
In your brand new rebuilt trans?
