Hey everyone! This is my first post in this forum! YAY ! :57:

I am planning to change my stock fog lights (27W) and upgrade them for HID ballasts (35W).

1- Is there enough room down there to tie up the ballasts securely?
2- Any flickering due to increased wattage? Do I need to use a relay?
3- How easy is the access to the fog lights areas under a SF 2007?

Thks for the assistance! I appreciate it! :)

:00000732:

hi this will be my first reponse so I dont know if I am doing this right.
here goes.
um why are you just considering the fogs?
have you done the low beams already?

okay I just did the low beams today and yes I used a relay for them and am also planning to use one for the fogs when I get around to doing them.
I used a 25A fuse with a 40A relay for the low and will be using the same relay setup for the fogs.
I glanced down there and well it looks real tight down there. I mounted the low beams ballast on the frame with a lil industrial strength silicone. I honeslty was waiting for someone to post this same inquiry.
When I do attempt it I was going to try to go from the bottom either on a lift or drive up ramps.

if you do get it please let me know. the size as far as I know is 880/881.

What are you doing with the old ones?

Mine doesn't have fog lights... not that I care to use them, I just like the look... are they easy to install, $$?

I have already changed the low beams, and did not have to use any relays. I just changed the fuse from a 15A to a 20-25A. I have no flickering and it works great.

As for the fogs - I just don't know how it would work with a relay (what do they look like, and how to you hook them up to a plug & play ballast)?

Thks for the tip with the silicone, I hadn't thought of using that. I only used industrial tie wraps and have securely mounted them around the low beam area, but I want to make sure they're super solid when it comes to the fogs.

thks. :57:

Honestly since I have been installing HID's I have always plugged them in directly to the factory wiring but that was also with American branded autos.
Dont know what to expect with Hyundai wire grade so went with the relay. the way I see it is if the fusable link melts then it is the one on the relay not in the fuse box and maybe potentially melting the factory wiring all over the front end.
Relays were $10 each and control 2 headlights.

They work the same with or without the relay. Your getting the signal for the lights to turn on from the headlight and it goes through the relay first then to the ballast and they go on. NO LAGGING INVOLVED!

The fogs would operate and be wired the same way as you did the low beams either directly to the socket or to the relay as I did.

Hope this helps...

[COLOR=blue] Thank you so much for your assitance... this really helps. Now, this might be a silly question... where abouts can I purchase a relay? I'm asking since I've probably never seen what it looks like. Installation steps might be self explanatory after I've seen it.

Thks again! :liebe011:

The reason behind HID is their low amperage to run them. Hence they don't need relays. The relay is for poorly made wiring and higher wattage bulbs. Running a short 12v wire directly from the battery to the higher wattage headlight does not let the voltage drop to the headlight that some suggest. If you read the HID instructions, it works from 9 to 12volts. It kicks the voltage from 12 to some 30K. Besides, when your car is running, you are running at 13.8 volts anyway. I have HID on my low and high. HIDs should not come on instantly. The bulb has to heat and there are a number of safety features that do not provide the full voltage for some 10 seconds. My lows are 4500K, they turn on blue for about 45 seconds until they warm. Then a nice white. They were really worth the $90.

That's helpful... thanks. You do mention that relays are for higher wattage... if these new fog HID's that I'm about to install are 35W, rather than 27W as the stock ones, wouldn't a relay be mandatory?

be careful with the fog lights that you install because I have some friends who installed higher wattage fog light bulbs and then after a few months the chrome inside the fog lights started to melt away.

im actually having a bit of an issue with my low bean HID's, sometimes the right bulb keeps flickering or turns off. I have to manually turn off my lights and turn them on for it to turn back on. Sometimes it doesn't even want to turn on. I never used a relay switch, should i be using one?

I used an angel eyes system and it worked great with the stock wiring. But I am having a heck of a time finding a suitable place to mount the ballast. I bought the 8000K lights and it goes great with my slate blue exterior and blue interior dash lights!!!
