Unfortunately, affordable performance improvements to normally-aspirated engines are limited & at most are only likely to give you a total of a 10% power-hike. The first step is a cone filter to replace the stock airbox, followed by a free-flowing cat-back exhaust system & finally (if you can afford it) a set of custom-made headers to replace the cast iron exhaust manifold.
Engine work, such as head-machining, more aggressive cams etc. is beneficial, but will cost more than the car is worth!.
