Hi all,

I have been lurking this forum for a few weeks while considering buying a I30.
First had a good look at one during the melbourne motor show looking for a good small car and couldnt go past the absolute bang for buck the i30 offered.

So im now looking at purchasing an I30 SX CRDi Auto with protetz pack, Steel Grey Metallic.
No other options except i will be asking for floor mats and a second key (see how we go with that one as i believe the keys are worth a bit, but some seem to be getting them for free?)

I have spoken to a couple of dealers and i have the best price so far of $26800 drive away.
Can anyone comment on wether that is a good price or if there is still more room to move?

Cheers

WFC

WFC,

We got the SLX with protectz, towbar kit, dashmat, floor mats and mud flaps (no second key) on the road in country SA for exactly $3000 more. Probably could have gotten for less in Adelaide but wanted a local country deal. I also gotabout $2000 more for my trade-in than the listed value.

What's the deal with these "second keys"? I got two keys but just one electronic keyfob. Awaiting an answer from my dealer as to a second keyfob. Told him I need a second fob. No reply yet.

Very happy so far with my i30 (UK Premium choice)

WFC,

Ours is a manual. I must have beed dreaming when I read your post as I missed the fact yours was an auto.

Your price seems quite reasonable for an auto SX.

Thanks,

IMHO paying extra for an auto trans when the manufacturers pay little difference between them (yes i know about the extra calibration effort in an auto car) ir really pure price discrimination.

That sounds pretty good, I hate dealers and the whole process you have to go through to get a good deal - ARGH!!

I think they always have room to move, they are just good are just really good at what they do. I'm sure they can - at least- make it $26,500. Sounds a lot nicer :-) Tell them if they do this you can give them the deposit on the spot. I'm sure they won't say no!?

That's true but they always say more trouble matching Auto to a diesel.

Dealers are full of crap, they will say whatever thats necessary to get you locked in on a higher drive away price.

Doesnt matter what the brand of car is.

I wouldnt pay $2,000 extra for an auto, or $1,000 more for the protectz pack, its a rip off.

Watch out when you finance using their credit providers, overpriced accessories, tinted windows, paint protection, fabric protection, rust proofing, all that stuff is just added profit on top of their markup on the car already.

I agree, NEVER pay for extra tint, paint/rust protection on a new car.

1)You can be guaranteed at getting tint MUCH cheaper in the real world and

2)It's 2008. If car makers haven't worked out how to rust and paint protect their cars by now there's something wrong. Paying extra for rust protection was worth it in the 70's, but an utter waste of money today. Its a 100% gimmick.

I've got an auto in my SR, mainly because she spends most of her time around town and I find autos more relaxing to drive. The fact that it cost $2000 didn't bother me one iota. It's the price you pay for not having to push a clutch and shift gears yourself, and the premium over the manual is a moot point. Paying extra for an auto is commonplace across every manufacturer. Same as paying extra for a diesel. You shouldn't have to but it's just the way it is.

Didnt mean to sound like I dont think autos have their merits, they obviously do as pointed out, however when it comes to trading in, there is little to no difference in changeover price between an auto or manual.

Im a fan of both types but I think in future we will see more cars have the option of choosing between using either full auto or semi auto clutchless shifts, so that will make choosing an auto over a manual so much easier, but theres something about being able to control and match engine speed to the clutch that an enthusiast will enjoy.

Diesel is dearer yes, not so in real terms, one only has to compare the $/km instead of the km/L figure, then the savings over petrol are easily seen, thats assuming the price of petrol and diesel does not rise either from year to year, highly unlikely.

Ive been offered driveaway $25,000 for a manual SX CRDi which I think is a bit high for what it is, about 2 months wait, Im confident I can do better.

At the moment, with diesel about 20c/L dearer than petrol, on top of a $2000 premium, it will take a long while for diesel to 'break even' with the equivalent petrol models. Having said that, my next car when I replace the i30 in 5 years will probably be a diesel. :)

Im looking at a Manual SLX CRDi i30 with Protecz pack (mainly for the extra break safety - young kids in the car etc), plus crusie control, and Metalic paint.
Am aiming for around high $27K to low $28K.

Will see how I go.

Buddy, can understand what you are saying and understand what you mean about being happy driving auto, But the part about the diesel is wrong it costs more to manurfacture. just pointing that out m8. for me i wanted maxium fuel economy, not to save $ but to have a longer range on one tank of fuel, also if the i30 did not have that diesel motor that delivers the Torque it does at the rev it does i would not be buying an i30. also i live in the city so there is traffic but manuel is no problem to me, as pushing a light clutch is nothing comnpaired to pushing your foot on the brake, the auto needs the brake more than the manuel. but my Ute is auto :)
cheers ps i run the v8 Ute on 98 octain so not much difference in cost of fuel

how's the weather been up that way? here we have set a new record for most days in a row with rain think the past 19 days. hate it!

It's been unusual up here in the tropics this wet season Lakes. It's a La Nina year and we did not see ONE cyclone in the Coral Sea. Also locally, we had our driest March ever recorded, and APril hasn't been that flash either. Prior to March though, it rained and rained. In the first 2 months of the year I recorded about 1113mm here!!
