I have a 1992 Hyundai excel that I have taken care of for almost 12 years. I have no major complaints, amazingly. So what I have is when I start the car in the morning it runs just fine, however when I back up out of the driveway the idle lopes or seems to want to almost stall. It does it regardless of whether or not I have lights on or not. I also drive down the road and as soon as I let off the gas the car seems to almost stall, but it always recovers if you give it a few seconds. Anyone have any ideas? I have changed the plugs, air filter, fuel filter, advanced and retarded the timing so far with no luck. Thought about bumping up the idle?????? Thanks.

I cleaned my throttle valve of carbon deposits. Of course the problem has shifted to an idle that fluctuates due to the idle position sensor plunger. Any ideas?

Test the battery, my wife;s 95 had the same problem stalling, the dealership raised the idle but that cured it for a bit, but it came back. I took the battery and got it tested and it was dead, after installing a new battery have not had it stall anymore.

Sorry I didn’t see this tread earlier. Have a Hyundai tech check the resistance of stepper motor (idle servo) and circuit.

What about the issue with regard to the ECU and bad capacitors on the board? Check out the Technomotive website for diagnosis and testing methodologies.

your problem is:
I back up out of the driveway the idle lopes or seems to want to almost stall

please refer the statement
After combustion, engine stall or rough idle below 50 c

this will be due to a.wiring connection loose or bad wiring
b.glow plug malfunction
c.glow plug relay malfunction
d.ECM failed

Oh boy, have I been off target again, or what. The Excel has no stepper motor (was thinking of the Elantra, this happen when one doesn't see the car).
Have a Hyundai Tech check & reset the engine base settings, it's max a 1/2 hour job.
