Hi Lakes,

Are you trading the Sonata or The Falcon? (or neither)

Which SX are you getting the Petrol or The Diesel.

Apart from the so so tyres I reckon the SX is fine. When you've got a few spare bucks get a set of 16" wheels and tyres (well under a grand from Bob Janes or Jax Quickfit) and you're laughing.

Still believe 17's are a bit harsh for the i30 and too dear to replace although the SR alloys are one of the best looking wheels around!

Hope the dealer has got it right

Hey Dazzler, it's a diesel m8 5 speed, i don't drive the sonata much at all m8 it's just in the family ( not my style car ) and i would not part with my 2004 v8 ute love it! have 204,000k on that, i could only have a diesel as the petrol 4's don't have grunt till 4,000, i want to go 900k+ without filling up as i'm used to going 800+ in the v8 ute that gets 10.2 average on a trip has a trip PC and i use that to the max the gas tank hold about 84 l's. i'm thinking about getting some of those michelin tyre's as i'm getting this car to drive to work and also out west in the sticks. i'm going to look at the michelin tyres this week if they are a lot lighter i'll see about doing a deal with change over with tyre's come stock with. not to worried about the look of the stock wheels as i look at my Beautiful Tracey more than the car :P
Cheers m8
ps was great to read you got out on the targa roads! hey they said they can fit cruise control at the dealer were i'll be driving a lot its straight roads but i have a licence to race so know how to drive just. drive like a girl on the street LOL

Hey Dazzler sorry if i came across wrong m8, was just joking about the poverty pack, i would have ordered the SLX but thought the price i got on the SX was a lot better and all i really wanted from the SLX option was the trip computer, but i also wanted a cruise control if the SLX had cruise control too i would have ordered that. but thought was not worth the extra when all i really wanted from it was trip computer.
i test drove three SX CRDi i30 and one SLX CRDi all were 5 speed, i could not really notice a difference in feel i got from the car between SX & SLX but the mags did look nicer. i also test drove a new Ford Focus turbo diesel 6 speed it steered a lot better and felt like it would handle better than the i30, i also drove a Mazda 3 turbo diesel 6 speed it handled better too, but in the end the i30 was the winner but not from how it handled. just liked the TQ delivery better and the gearbox felt better it also seemed to have more go from low revs in 1st gear.
i'll see how it feels and how the economy is with the stock 15" 195 tyres, those Michelin are not going to happen, talked to a michelin tyre service and they said they can't get those tyre in 15" 195 as would cost too much to import and no one would buy them, said everyone wants looks not tyres that give fuel economy :) makes sence in Australia, also our roads would not help economy with all those pot holes to make rolling harder and what works and sells in euro does not always work and sell here.
Cheers

Hi Lakes,

We didn't test drive the Focus Diesel as my wife is a bit anti-Ford (sorry) but it is widely acknowledged that they do handle very well and obviously better than the i30.

We also test drove the 6spd Mazda 3 diesel and while we liked it thought the i30 had slightly better pick up from a smaller more economical motor and was better value overall.

The i30 handling is what I would call average for the class (unmodified) but at the speeds we can safely and legally drive these days that is academic. The i30's saving graces are its torque, equipment levels and its likeable nature (a bit like me actually - < he says modestly> :P

Cheers,

Dazz

P.S. I'm writing this at 4am - couldn't sleep it's a bit warm up here in Tweed
Heads for a Tassie boy

jessi3 & Dazz,
First off i hope i don't offend anyone with my style of posts, i don't mean too. you know how it is when you put something in typing but you can not see the person your talking too to form your own opinion.

Well first up Jessi i ordered the i30 SX CRDi in continental silver with no options other than dealer fitted like he said he can fit cruise control and am getting paint protection. but thats it. ordered it last week, dealer said normally 6 to 8 week's, then yesturday or day before ? he phoned while i was at work, said 5 to 6 weeks but can not guarantee.
so with my calculations could be here in May.

Hey Dazz ( still grinning about your wife not liking Ford) i first went looked at the focus when they first got the diesel out here, glove box in the new one i looked at would not close so told sales guy, he had a go at closing it and said it's broken, then i wanted to look at the motor as i'm a motor type person :) you have to twist the Ford badge aside to reveal a key hole and use a key to lift hood, i did not like that. then months latter i got to test drive as a one eyed Ford guy test drove the i30 then test drove the Focus Diesel he said the i30 was good, but the focus was in another class and was much better and faster, so i went and tested one, the indicator switch was left side of the wheel so i kept turning wippers on, the hand brake was on the left side of floor consol, the styling of the car has been around too long, also i think Ford will go broke soon, and the Focus stalled twice in 1st gear they seem to have a very tall 1st gear ratio, felt like driving a large truck with a big load and starting in the normal 2nd gear they will stall unless you ride the clutch so you put them in the very low crawler gear, the focus felt like that so thought would not be nice in traffic. but it performed well. then i looked at trip computer it said average fuel useage per 100k was 27L/per 100K even on my V8 driving fast or in traffic i have never seen it that high ford saleperson said loojk at sticker on window thats the fuel consumption? whats the trip computer for?
then i drove the i30 again this one i drove had some miles up and it flew had lots more low end grunt than the focus in 1st gear off the line, then a friend got a new mazda 3 turbo diesel he got me to drive it it was fast but i did not like the gear box.
now he has traded it in an a Ford ute on LPG but this guy changes cars all he time.
i like the i30
John

Hi John,

I like the style of your posts (feel like i know you as you appear to write as if you were talkin it).

Interesting observations!

Just one thing..if you can get out of the paint protection it would save you some dollars. (maybe enough for new wheels and tyres?)

Modern metallic paints dont need it IMO. The dealers push for it real hard as it's easy money (I was a Nissan Salesman for a whole month in 1996) Too many hours for too few $$$ and was a single parent at that time for a few months.

We had a 1998 Nissan Pulsar Dark Green metallic for 4 years outside
24/7 and even though it was never polished still looked like a new pin after every wash. Same with our 2001 model Pulsar which we traded our Green one in on in 2002 (a vivid blue look metallic)

Rgds,

Dazz

Hey Dazz, thank's m8, the salesperson did not push on paint oprotection , i asked as my m8 Mal got it years ago ( three years ) and has been telling me it stopped his car getting dirty. but i'll just tell the salesmanager don't want it. he won't mind as my brother in law works there.
i'll look for some Mag's with the money just for you m8 :57:
Hey you seem like your a tyre person am i right?
what tyre's come stock on the 15" steel wheels? as i forgot to look but know i should have.
Cheers

Hi M8

It's Dazza again. Think the 15's are still a kuhmo, but not sure which one. Have read somewhere on the net in atleast two places that they are a much lesser tyre than the ones on the SLX and SR. If I can find the references I'll post the links.

Been getting out and about in Northern NSW and Southern Qld over the last 24 hours and have seen a Vivid Blue SX and a Red SX (not sure if Diesel or 2.0) and a black CRDi SLXI even took a couple of Pix of the black one!

My "Big" brother who we're staying with can't understand my passion. (He has a 2006 VW eos and a Kawasaki ER-6F.)

I'm just one of those people who gets a kick out of most everything I do. Doing research before and after the event to justify my decisions i guess.

The Epica Auto rent-a-car is ideal as a comfortable reasonably economical cruiser for our visit but is entirely devoid of any character (let alone the feel good factor of the i30 or even the Tiida)

That's about it.

C ya

Dazz

Hi M8,

Straight from Drive.Com road test...

"The weakness remains the handling, severely compromised by low-grip Kumho Solus tyres, which dissolve into squealing slides at ridiculously low speeds.

Having sampled the SR on much better rubber, we know the i30 has fundamentally sound handling"

I have been lucky to date with OEM rubber on most of my previous cars (except for a 1973 808 Mazda I had in 1975 which had crossplies which I replaced with radial after I survived unscathed from a 360 degree spin in the wet)

I am price conscious with Tyres when replacing the OEM when they become warn and usually go for something middle of the range a step or two above the OEM, often slightly wider and lower profile keeping the same rolling diameter. Have gone with Goodyear ECO 5 replacements in the past getting a good deal through the local Goodyear dealer.

Hope that answers your query John

Cheers,

Dazz

Hi All

Was talking to a dealer today and he said Hyundai can only get
1000 I30s imported into Australia each month. The problem is they
are now selling about 1500 each month so waiting list will get longer
as the stock of older cars that were left from the slower selling months
at the begining of I30 sales that had filled in the gaps has gone.

Hey Dazzler, good to hear you made it up tweed heads m8, can understand how it's hard to sleep, i've been down tassie a few times and the cool nights are nice. but here right now we are getting cool night's.
i think depends on the jouralist that writes the scribble for the rag's m8, if they like it they tell you good bull Shi t about it if they don't they tell you bad Bull Shi t, but they are still only journalists :) the boy's at the Daily Telegraph love the SX auto and thought fully laden ( just means they had a boot full of Grog knowing journalists like i do :) they said it handled well.
well i'm going to get going m8 you have a ball up there and see if you can get booked for parking by a topless meter maid! lol
cheers

Hi Guys,

If this Dlr info is correct 1500 p/m gets us in or near the top 10 sellers (I would like to see that) combined with Elanta sales that would make us "a force to be reckoned with!" Not good news for those on waiting lists - hope not too many pull the plug and go elsewhere.

Seems like the Diesel is getting a cult following my guess is 50/50 with the SR 2.0 keeping the flag flying for the petrol model. Reckon a few will opt for the SR if the Diesel waiting lists get much longer. Not a big fan of unheated leather seats but the SR seats with the Cloth/Leather combo are a nice compromise and look good to boot. Maybe I should have bought an SR and a CRDi....

Cheers to all

Hi Jamie,

Forum members including yourself might find the following link interesting.

http://www.autonews.net.au/static/vfacts/2...arque_model.pdf

Only a bit over 1000 i30s sold in March - interesting to see the split and comparisons for 2007/2008 of some of our opposition

Cheers

Hey Dazz

I guess those 1019 I30 sales last month would only be for
cars that are paid for and deliverd.I could be wrong.Wonder how many would have been put on order for the month including cars deliverd and to be deliverd?
Thanks for the link Dazz. :liebe011:
