If the filter is very dirty it will affect the performance of the engine. When was the filter last replaced? How many miles are on the filter? An clean OEM filter will make a big difference over a dirty one.

But if you want, adding a K&N can help too. You might see a slight performance increase over a new OEM filter. I like K&N because it can be cleaned and re-used. However, just don't over-oil the filter after it's cleaned.

Most air filters have a paper media for filtering the air. The Hyundai OEM filter is paper and when it gets dirty you just throw it out and buy a new one because it can not be cleaned.

K&N filters have a cotton gauze media that needs to be oiled. A new K&N will come pre-oiled from the factory but when it gets dirty you can clean it with a special solution and water. When it is dry, you re-oil it with their oil. Just don't add too much or the oil will coat the MAF sensor and cause it to malfunction. Then you will need to clean the MAF.

You don't have to remove the sensor in the middle of the collar. You can just remove the collar from the intake tube via the 2 clamps. Then you just spray the sensor with MAF cleaner and re-install when dry.

A better way to clear the codes without disconnecting the battery and losing the radio programming is to just pull the fuse for the ECM. That should have the same effect. I'm not 100% sure on the XG electrical system but I believe that will work.

It should be fuse #3 in the fuse box under the hood. Pull it out for about 1/2 hous to make sure the memory is erased.
