Well, I went and did it. I bought a 2008 Toyota. I like my vehicle OK, but the Toyota forums don't compare with the Hyundai forums. Bunch of snobs over there.
I've got to be honest, the Sonata is quieter, handles better, and has better power. But I just had to get a Toyota. I already discovered there are TSB's and various noise, engine, and transmission failures, so I'm no better off. In fact, I'm probably worse off.
Cheers guys! Hope to see you around if you jump on the Toyota forums.

QUOTE(babstude @ Apr 1 2008, 11:33 AM) doh caught this thread too late .. I was onto ya !!! Naaah, I had you going like a monkey on a string. :) In all seriousness, my brand new truck has all kinds of TSB's. The tailgate is too weak and collapses, the suspension bottoms out, transmission failures, weird noises and vibrations, weak paint, it's endless. I'm spoiled on my relatively trouble free Sonata. The Toyota forums really do have a bunch of snobs, too. No April Fooling at all. I would never have bought a Toyota truck, but the alternatives were EVEN WORSE. I heard Kia is supposed to market a pickup in 2010, but I couldn't wait.

Drives: 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid Status: OFFLINE

Ok I'll delurk and try to be as objective as possible. About a year ago I traded my 06 V6 LX (loaded) for a 07 Toyota Camry Hybrid (loaded). I still drop into this forum from time to time because it's much more interesting than the Camry forums.
So anyway, I got rid of the Sonata for a few key reasons (in order): 1. No matter how I adjusted the seats, I just couldn't get comfortable in them. I don't look deformed or anything, but the lumbar was just never right. 2. My Mom had bought a Prius and, as a bit of a technogeek, I fell in love with it. 3. I liked the idea of using less oil. There are many arguments regarding net energy used to make the car and whether the premium you pay for a hybrid is made up in gas savings. Not that interesting to me. I wanted the car so I bought it.
After a year of driving the Sonata followed by a year in the Camry, here are the highlights of my experiences:
1. I'm getting much better mileage (duh). I was getting around 24 MPG in Sonata and with the same commute I get around 37 MPG in the Camry hybrid. I had a couple of tanks that were over 40 MPG in the fall when the car warmed up quickly and I wasn't using the air conditioner.
2. I'm more comfortable in the Camry seats.
3. What they say is true, I have more rattles in the Camry. At around 10K a really nasty dash rattle settled in that happens when the car is cold. There's a TSB to fix it but they have to tear out the entire dash. Whenever I have something like that done, I later find broken clips, scratches, etc. so I'm waiting to see if it gets worse.
4. When the dash is not rattling, the Camry is quieter than the Sonata (eerily quiet when you motor around in electic-only mode).
5. I like having the in-dash nav system in the Camry but the user interface takes some learning. I bought a Garmin Nuvi 200W for my GF and was extremely impressed by how intuitive it was to use. Never needed the instruction manual. In the Toyota I'll be poking through a few screens before I remember how to store and address.
6. The Camry trunk is much smaller because that's where they stashed the hybrid battery. It still works ok for me since I have a truck if I need to move anything big.
BTW my truck is a 2003 Tacoma 4x4 TRD and, out of many, many other vehicles I've owned, including trucks, cars, and sports cars, I love the Taco the most. I can't put my finger on any one reason why that is. It's not without flaws but just seems to suit me.
