I have always been slack when it comes to checking pressures on a regular basis. I came across a device on the web that took my interest and I lashed out and made a purchase after a bit of investigation.

The device replaces the dust cap and gives a visual on whether or not the tyres are at or under recommended pressure.

I purchased two sets of four for our two cars, the i30 (32psi rated caps) and the Getz (30psi rated caps). You can buy them in pairs if you want to run different pressures in the front and back.

When the cap is all green, tyres are at or above pressure.
When the cap shows some yellow, the pressure is 10% (approx 3psi) below.
When the cap shows some red, the pressure is 20% (approx 6psi) below.

For pricing and further info chack out their website: http://www.tyrecheckers.com.au/

Choice also did a review of the product: http://www.choice.com.au/viewArticle.aspx?...essure+checkers

Hope someone finds this useful.

Bob

Right. Since this post (1st April) I've been measuring my pressures weekly with a digital dongle doodaa from Maplins. Dunno if our Oz boys have a Maplins store, although I imagine it's not an exclusive to them.

When cold, this device shows a beautiful 32psi all round for all tyres. It also includes a digital depth gauge which is showing on the pic.

Always good to keep an eye on pressures as even a small reduction in the recommended figure can affect performance and handling.

So I've been told.

Yeah - I balanced it on my rear wheel just for the effect :w00t:

Hey Shambles in the pic she is reading 28.9 mate?
i put a healthy 34.5psi in mine all round as i always like a few pounds more, no problem and tyres seem to stay cool this just means they will last and hot tyres just mean more friction. more air helps them roll easier so less resistance less fuel, thats if you drive carefully, just could have less traction in the wet you just have to test.
i just use a digital gauge that you push down on tyre valve like normal, have my own air compressor so always check and set them cold at home.

Yeah, that's just because I extended the depth gauge to activate the display :)

Hey Shambles, just saw your quote that the wheels take some keeping clean, is this due to brake dust m8? just wondering if our disc pads give off that black dust?

Yeah I reckon so. Keep getting speckles at the rear (of the car) and blooms (of dust) on the front. Takes some cleaning I can tell you.

When it comes to cricket, believe me we do cry. Better now though that Warney's off the scope and Freddy is back in full flow :57:
