I'm getting ready to pick up my brand new 2008 Elantra SE (stick) and the sales guy from the dealer mentioned this Extended Warranty over the phone.
He mentioned it's pretty much bumper-to-bumper with the obvious exceptions, belts, tires, brakes, battery, but it extends even the stereo system, roadside assistance and so on. I think he's probably very generous calling it bumper-to-bumper.

It's going to be barely short of $1,000, so I wanted to post this before they pressure me this evening into buying it.

Thanks for your opinions.

If it were me I'd put the grand in a CD. In 5-10 years if you need it you'll have the grand plus. If you don't need it you still have your grand plus.

Disclosure, I used to sell these warranties. Save your grand and let it grow, don't spend it. That's where most mess up.

That sounds right. I was thinking that paying now for possible repairs 5 years from now doesn't make sense.
Their argument is that it only adds $19 a month, which is also valid.

The price wasn't bad though. Dead cost is around $900. I do think that the salesperson overstated the coverage. I don't believe the radio or anything under a sub warranty (radio, paint, battery) are extended.
