I sent an email to Hyundai HQ regarding to the remote key sets and I received this;
In regards to the extra key for your i30, unfortunately, the vehicle as well as the keys are imported via Korea, and only come standard with 1 remote with a key inside + 1 single key. Therefore any spare parts (e.g. additional remotes / keys) have to be purchased separately via the Hyundai dealer. There was recently a promotion where the dealers were selling i30's with a free additional remote, but that was only for that particular time/period that the promotion ran and for cars purchased within that time, so that may be why your friends received an extra key, as it is not standard to come with two.
If you have further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us again. Kind regards Candice, Customer Service Consultant Hyundai Motor Company Australia #G195981

My Hyundai dealer informed me that if you lose the remote key, you can use the spare to run the car. You just have to wait 30 - 60 seconds for the alarm to turn off :(

Happynoodleboy and others,
It appears we are pushing the proverial up hill when it comes to getting a spare key from Hyundai.
I did try out the spare key just over a week ago and found the following:
Unlocked door but did not open it - no alarm sounded.
Opened the door - alarm sounded.
Placed key in ignition - alarm stopped (did not have to wait 30 sec).
Short time later, statred car without any problems.
After above, I tried locking the car and opening the door - no alarm sounded.
Interesting? I wondered if the security system fails to reactivate using the spare key. I tend to think it doesn't. If I am right, this, in itself, raises a security problem. Use the spare key and your vehicle security is compromised.
Have others tried the above or anything similar? What have you found?
On another issue with keys, I can't see how I would ever lock the primary key in the car excepting for one seranrio, being:
Open hatch in order to put shopping or similar in the boot. As I put down items I place key in boot and forget to retrieve it before shutting the hatch. Hatch would then lock automatically and I would be in serious trouble.
Bob

Hi Bob,
I tried the manual key shortly after gettting my i30, with exactly the same result as you mentioned. If you lock the car with the remote, opening the door using the manual key triggers off the alarm. But locking the car with the manual key (and it locks centrally) does not set the alarm. Which does raise security issues as you said.
While this is a bit of a pain, we still have an exceptionally good car at a ridiculously low price, so I can't be too unhappy!
Regards
Lawrie

Bob, Lawrie and others,
The day we picked ours up, I put the remote on my keyring and the spare on the wifes. We then went into town together. I locked the car with the remote and went to pizza shop, she went into video shop. She was first back to the car and unlocked it with spare. Guess what happened next, lets say I wasn't very popular. After we had eaten our Pizza I read the manual. It states that the only way to arm the alarm is with the remote. The only two ways of turning it off is either with the remote or by placing the spare in the ignition. So once turned off, locking the car with the spare doesn't re-enable the alarm. I guess it isn't a big deal if you know the rules, which is NO remote NO Alarm.
Cheers Dave

QUOTE(Seoul @ Apr 9 2008, 07:42 PM) Hi all.....picked up my new white SLX i30 Deisel today.......and guess what????........it came with two remote keys :amen: !!! I asked my dealer about this as I have followed the remote key topic on this forum for a while,.....he said that all SLX models now come with two remote keys as there has been quite a stink made about it. So someone must be listening..............you would now think that everyone else ( at least with an SLX ) who missed out on this deal previously has a good chance of getting this key thing backdated and get their dealer to supply them with a second remote key for free. P.S. I'm in Queensland on the Sunshine Coast. Thanks Seoul, I will call my hyunday dealer tomorrow. Dazz, and everyone else should try it too.

QUOTE(Lakes @ Apr 10 2008, 04:56 AM) Hi Seoul, good for you! hey how long did you have to wait for your i30? John Hi John, ordered the car on December 29th 2007. It arrived in Australia in late March. However someone stuffed up and it came without the protectz pack that I had ordered :crying: However they did get the rest of the extras correct ( reverse sensors, tint, tow-bar and mats) They really wanted me to take the car there and then ,,,, but I asked them to re-order another car for me from Korea. After thinking about it a few days I decided I couldn't wait another three months, even for the protectz pack so instead I negotiated for them to swap the standard 16 inch SLX mags for the 17 inch SR mags and some decent tyres. BUT,,,,,the wheels also have to come from Korea and they will take a few weeks to get here. So meantime I have taken delivery of the car and when the new wheels arrive ( soon???) they will swap them over for me.

I emailed the Hyundai support centre about the spare key and was given the following response: Dear Peter, Thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately, all the i30 Model vehicles (including the SLX CRDi) as well as its keys are imported via Korea, and only come standard with ONE remote with a key inside and ONE single key. Any spare keys (e.g. additional remotes / keys) have to be purchased separately via a Hyundai dealer. You can find the details of your nearest dealership by visiting http://dealerinfo.hmca.com.au/dealerlocato...alersearch.aspxIf you have already been to a dealership, do not hesitate to contact us again. Kind Regards, Sabrina Customer Service Consultant Hyundai Motor Company Australia Reference # G210684 So obviously a bit random at the moment about who gets what!!!
