QUOTE(Bravo @ Jun 3 2008, 02:41 PM) ...If there is any help? please advise me on ravencl @ tadaust.org.au All I can suggest is you follow the markers from earlier in this thread... contact your dealership to start with. Be nice and polite, but firm. That advice didn't work for me; I had to make contacts up the chain at Hyundai Motor UK Ltd until eventually they agreed to some goodwill.

When we went around to dealers on Wed night, we made sure to ask for two fob keys included with the car. But the dealers are saying that the models are now coming up with 2 keys as a standard. It's a shame that some of you who missed out now may have to fork out money for an extra one, seeing as they cost about $400!!! It's such a raut!

Hi all,
A new i30 owner in Australia here and seems I'm not the only one having issues with this crazy single remote key, and a second key that only seems useful for setting off the alarm.
Just to fill you in on the situation here is Aus...
My partner and I work differing hours and it's somewhat frustrating to have the alarm of this little car wake our neighbors at 2:00 am, so I called Hyundai Australia and after several repeat calls was finally put through to a gentleman by the name of Marinko with a title of 'Hyundai National Customer Relations Manager'.
Marinko tells me the second key isn't a key at all - Hyundai's are only supplied with one key, the second key is an emergency alarm device only. He flat-out refused to consider that anyone would/should need a second key, and likewise refused to entertain the concept that Hyundai should provide a second key (somewhat explains why Hyundai aren't exactly noted for good customer relations in this country :-)
Does this ring true? - the car is leased and it's annoying enough that I'm considering calling the lease company and telling them to come and collect the car - I really don't want it if the attitude of Hyundai is to treat it's customers this way - it's still within the 30 day grace period so I can return it as unwanted.
But is what Marinko tells me true? - I wouldn't want to escalate this issue if it's just one staff member talking nonsense and they would/should provide another key. Any help or advice appreciated.

Thanks for the response guys - Darryl I will raise this with my lease provider as they are 'big and ugly enough' to get the respect from Hyundai Aus that wasn't granted to me - and we lease more than enough cars from them to warrant action.
It’s interesting to hear Lakes and Shambles received second remote keys because the character I spoke with at Hyundai flat-out denied this was possible unless I purchased a second key from my dealer – and considering the car is only two weeks old (Lakes it’s a ULP model SLX), that’s just not going to happen. This is a warranty issue. I was given two keys when I purchased the car, only one of them sets off the burglar alarm when used and is demonstrably faulty no matter what sort of spin Hyundai place on it. This is a fault, plain and simple. I’m not going to spend money to resolve a warranty issue.
Just as an aside, we have three cars – an X-Trail, a Mazda 6 and now this little puppy Hyundai. Needless to say, both the Nissan and the Mazda both came with two remote keys. Neither of them set of the alarm when used. No issues, no hassles.

PS - Dazz I checked-out the other site and thanks for the offer. Seems this is a larger issue than I thought, although seemingly most people get it resolved if/when they complain loudly enough. I guess like anyone I can tollerate some quality issues in a product I've purchased as long as the company I'm dealing with displays ethics and honesty in rectifying any issues. At this point Hyundai is a long way short.
I've just drafted a letter to Fleet Partners (lessors) and if necessary will cc the Automotive industry Council and Ombudsman re the key not being suitable for purpose and the refusal of Hyundai to affect a warranty repair/replacement for a 2-week old vehicle. Will let you know the outcome.

Thanks heaps Shambles - this is a helpful forum!
After speaking with my dealer and fleet manager this morning we decided to follow protocol at least as far as giving Hyundai the chance to do the right thing – the dealer will make another approach on my behalf, and as necessary escalate within their own hierarchy first. We will only involve the financiers and ombudsman etc. if and as necessary.
Hopefully common sense (and a modicum of customer service) will prevail…
PS – I’ve been with this particular dealer for a number of years and it would be unfair of me not to praise their efforts in all of this –They have been fantastic and as helpful as they can be given the circumstances - maybe because they aren’t just a Hyundai dealer. They also handle Nissan and Holden so they know how vehicle keys and alarms are supposed to work, plus more than a little about providing the sort of customer service that keeps people coming back :-)
