Following on from discuusions in the "3 months too long to wait" topic.....

I have just got off the phone from the dealership where I purchased my i30.

They told me that what they are telling all of their customers to do is to go in (say at the 1000km free service) and say that they need a second remote so that their partner/friend/whatever can pick the car up after you have left it somewhere without setting the alarm off.

Obviously he couldn't vouch for other dealers but they have had a load of remotes sent over and all they need to do (under warranty) is fill out a form and send it to Hyundai (head office I assume) and then they can program one of the remotes they have in stock to use with your car.

He actually said that mine is still the only one they have received with 2 remotes!

Thanks for the research. My dealer has been mucking me around with my tow pack which was negotiated into the price so I'm going to put the hard words on him 2moro for a 2nd key (1000km service - actually up to 1400km already)

Can't help you a lot with the tow bar I'm afraid.

Looked at a lot of cars before deciding on the i30 and to sweeten the deal on an Astra CDX Wagon I was originally going to buy from the same dealer as the i30 I screwed them for a Tow Kit which I think was listed at around $700.

When they couldn't supply the colours I wanted in under 3 months I went cold and eventually ended up back there negotiating on an i30. Managed to get them to agree to a Tow Kit (which includes wiring/ plug etc) but have no idea what it lists at. Assumed worth at least $500 which seems pretty standard on these class of vehicles.

Ironically when I picked it up the day before Easter they had forgotten to put it on and I said it was o/k as I would be back in this week for my 1000km service. Now they are saying in has been ordered but hasn't arrived yet (service due tommorrow)... hence I have good bargaining for another key!

I'll let you know if I find out any more about a tow bar (may be worth a google search?)

We have a towbar fitted. We decided on the towbar after the deal was signed. I did manage to get them to include the protectz pack in the price for about $15 so really I had already negotiated a reduction in price.

Anyway, back to the towbar and wiring loom. It is a very neat fit with a flat (not square) tongue. The slot the tongue fits in is covered by a plastic cap when the tongue is not fitted. The tongue is held in place by a tappered pin (not bolted like most flat tongues).

I Googled the i30 towbar and found reference to one in the UK. It has a strange looking ball and tongue which is nothing like any used in Australia.

We had several additions to the car which we decided on during the three month wait. I believe the towbar price may have been less than list price.

I was going to get an Elantra Dashmat as someone on one of the forums said they would fit the i30 (I had a look at a current Elantra and the top does look the same) I would have had one by now but every Elantra Dashmat I've come accross has been pre 12/06 model.

The other day as I mentioned in a post we discovered Sunland now make an i30 model (lead time is usually about 6 months so that seems about right) Imagine it would retail for around $40 if someone bothers to put one in stock!

Assume yours is a genuine original Hyundai one for $58 does it fit well and look to be of good quality? The first Sunland dashmat I got for the Getz we traded was very poor fit and stitching (was a bit slow to complain so in the end just gave it to my Daughter for her ex-rental Getz and got another sunland - much better made than the first)

Got generic Car mats from Supercheap and if we decide to put mudflaps on Supercheap have some quite affordable ones we will buy (I can be cheapskate sometimes!)

P.S. Spoke to my window tinting guy sounds like we will go with Black Azz and says we can go darker on the rear window as we like - yeah)

Normally I would go the cheap wa as well. I did buy an after market mat for the Getz and it went out of shape after about 2 days. Took it back and had it replaced with a new one and there have been no problems. That one cost $45.

The i30 mat is a good fit. The SLX has a button temperature sensor for the climate control on the dash in the centre that shouldn't be covered, so any dash mat needs a hole in it at the right spot.

We're very pleased with the fit of the floor mats. The mud flaps are those slick plastic things. We drive on gravel sometimes and our home is on a dirt road on the edge of a small country town with no neighbours to speak of.

By the way, fitted our personal slim number plates today, OURI 30 (white with blue writing).

Bob i think the type tow bar from Euro you are describing in not legal here, at least in this state it's not as i was once looking at a VW TDI they use that style tow bar but the dealer said they are not legal so they get made in Aust from Hayman R by look of them. the tow bar from VW looked like a tube with a ball at the end, is this what you mean?

I figured the UK towbar would not be legal in Oz.

Have added an attachment of one (not the i30, but similar). I assume they are made of solid steel bar and the ball is turned on the end.

Hi Bob and Lakes,

The UK style tow bar looks ugly to my eyes anyway.

Our mats were near new hand me down from previous car Superworks brand from Supercheap half price special ($7.50) for a set of 4! Should really get custom fits as somehow I always skew the mats no matter how much they cost.

If I can't get nice looking aftermarket mudflaps for either of our new cars will go the genuine but usually only go with fronts and should be cheaper if I fit them myself.

The hole in the centre is probably the diff between the two dashmats thanks for the tip.

In Tassie we can get personalised plates from Tasplates fairly limited options and if you want a word like "Dazzler" its one of fee of $995 i think. can have three letters and 3 numbers for $295 so I've toyed with getting DAZ 130 which would hopefully look close enough to i30 but managed to get my YOB (56) in my standard plate so might just stick with that as if I get DAZ 130 wife will want one for the Tiida as well. There I go being tight again...

Just tell em if you come to Sydney and loose your key and only have a spare key no remote, that ol Tart Clover Moore will hit you with a fine for setting off your alarm LOL :57: I was thinking about personalized plate's they used to cost $300 per year here but they have changed the system and a few different opptions and some are only $60 now. i once saw "Battler" on a new Roller in Syd :)

Thanks for the info Hadders, I rang my dealer today and they thought it might be possible to get a free spare remote key under warranty as you suggest. They said they would get back to me.

Will let eveyone know how I get on.

Am finding the discussion threads very interesting and useful. We have a white SX CRDi manual, only about 1100k on the clock so far. Very happy with the performance and economy, although the change from 1st to second seems a bit slow and clunky.

The change up and down to 2nd isn't as smooth as other Hyundais i've had. Hoping it will get better with time (as it did in a 2001 Nissan Pulsar I previously owned)

Hope you're right about the gear change. I don't recall it being like this in the one I test drove. I raised it with the dealer at my 1000k service, and they said just see if it improves over time, and if not raise it again at the next service. Feels a bit like slow synchro, which I have experienced on other vehicles when they get a bit old.

Dealer called back today about getting another remote key under warranty. He said he had spoken to Hyundai customer service, and no go

I grudgingly accepted his advice, but said I would come back if I found there were others getting freebies.

Sounds like some inconsistencies! My dealer was Adrian Brien in Adelaide if anybody else got theirs from there.

It may not be a major issue but handy to have the two just in case!

Dazzler, if i get time i'll get a booklet from RTA there are that many types colour combinations and price variations it's like reading a novel. some are just the one off $60 fee others have an anual fee i think there is about four different style plates and each style has a lot of colour combinations basicaly the one's with no number and just letters has te anual fee but you can make numbers look a bit like letters if you have wild imagination :)

Mate, i would say when you first got your car and you had your Cash they had the car, you might have had something to bargain with, but you took the car they took the money. so as i see it it is a deal. just how i see it. like back in 99 i got a new AU falcon Ute came with two key's two remotes, mate i drove that ute 250,000k in about 4 1'2 years and never once used that spare remote or spare key. then i get a new BA falcon ute i got one key with remote and one key without remote, i thought maybe dealer kept it but did not worry the ute opens with key or with remote no problem. BUT in this case if the alarm goes off if you use the key well maybe that is a problem who know's. i'll have Cash in my hand and see what happens . it will be show me the car show me how to open it, then show me what i'm getting if i loose this key and remote, see how much they like the money :grin:
