the dealership charged me over $300 for a Silencer alarm. They never told me the Elantra already had an alarm system. When I later questioned them, they said this was a passive alarm system rather than the factory installed one. yet the work order says "program silencer security" not install it.
can anyone tell me if the Elantra already has the "Silencer" alarm on it from the factory?

sorry, it's a 2008 Elantra SE bought new.

We also just purchased a 2008 Elantra SE with the premium package and the alrm does not work. What is the deal with this?

I don't know about Hyundai, but I do know that some other cars (e.g. Neon SRT-4) have an un-enabled alarm function in their body control modules that can be enabled if you have access to that brand's specialized scan-tool.

Hey director59 - Look at the other post in the forum about alarm problems. The hood switch/sensor is a common failure on the new Elantras. Just had mine replaced at the dealership this morning b/c my alarm was going off at random and sometimes not arming. Call your dealership, and schedule an appointment. A warranty is a nice thing to have.
