I have a 07 Santa Fe GLS AWD with the 3.3L my problem which I’m having is when I first bought the Santa Fe when I fill up the tank the reading would say 322 miles to empty. After 7 months of me having the truck I notice when I would fill up it would only say 233 miles till empty. I took it into the dealer and explain they recalibrated the computer and it went back to 322 miles but it only lasted for a few days then went back to 233 miles to empty. I went back to the dealer and according to the Tech he said there was a short in my Cluster so they replaced the whole cluster which wiped out my miles to 0. They placed a sticker on my door jam which states from the state of New Jersey and the Dealer ID # with my original miles which where 5,343 miles. I asked them if they could reprogram my cluster with my original miles they said it can't be done. They had an engineer come down from the main Hyundai to look at it and they say it’s normal. To me it’s not because when I first bought my truck every fill up the miles would go to 322. Can anyone please let me know if this is correct or what? What should I do if this is not correct??

It calculates the range miles from the Avg MPG. What is your Avg MPG? If it's low, then you would expect to see a lower range estimate. You can reset the Avg MPG whenever you want, just like the trip meter. I find my range varies based on the Avg MPG I have been getting recently.

okay so your telling me this is normal. Because they loan me a 08 Sonata V6 Limited and i've had this car for almost 2 weeks since they have my santa Fe and everytime i fill it up the miles always goes back to 322. Isnt my santa Fe surpose to go back to 322 miles every fill up and then avg it self out after a run

Ditto to what maseace said. The computer is working properly; it is simply lowering expectations based on actual observed fuel economy. Try playing with the reset button under different driving conditions, and the projected range will change.

Most vehicles come with unrealistically high fuel economy ratings, and the Santa Fe is no exception. What works for me is to take the trip computer display and put a piece of electrical tape over it

Grios,

That car they loaned you probably has never had the Avg MPG reset so unless you drive it radically different for say a couple thousand miles you wont affect that number by more than a couple tenths maybe not even that.
To summarize what Maseace said if the car holds 18 gallons and the computer tells us your avg mpg is 18 then your range to empty will show 324 miles, if you drive it hard and the computer drops your mpg to 15 by next fill up then it will show you 270 to empty. That may or may not be the case with your vehicle but if you never reset your AVG MPG then you may have had this work done for nothing.

Similar problem. I don't remember ever putting more than 15-16 us gallons in it and with and avg of 24 mpg my Santa fe also says 322, but if the tank is 19.8 it should read 420 or so.

When you fill up you must reset the trip odometer and average setting. It's simply remembering your average mileage and calculating the remaining gas. I guess slight variations in the guage may read 15.5 or 16.2 in your tank. That would throw off you DTE.
Wait until you get down to 1/4 tank and see the readings. They should be close with the average the same. I never get the same average, 19.9, 20.5 depends on traffic.
