I have run into what many others have-either my input/output sensor or my throttle sensor,or both according to one response, have blown.
If you've had this problem and taken it to the dealer to fix,how much did it cost you?
One poster said their dealer asked 600,is that pretty much what Im lookin at?
I also saw one poster fixed it himself for 200,parts included, but i havent seen them on ebay,so Im probably gonna hafta use the dealer
thanks for any help

which parts did you replace?
i was under the impression that i need to replace the throttle positioning sensor to fix the problem, an i didnt see it n there
any basis to it being more in the input/outputs, or is it more likely the tps?
thanks

somewhat easy diagnosis....read the code from your CEL...get it done for free at Autozone or any other auto parts joint.

Should give you a place to start.

Now, you can do it the old fashioned way and start uplugging one sensor at a time... drive the car... if it drives worse...that sensor is okay. When you unplug a sensor and nothing changes... you found the bad one. Replace it and pull your negative wire from the battery- pump the brakes a couple times to discharge and energy stored- go rest on the shitter - have a cold beverage - replace negative lead and drive away....

ha thanks man
i got it read at jiffy lube since theres no autozone near me,and they came up with one code but even after running it through hyundai codes they couldnt figure out what it was for
i read somewhere far back that its not going to appear anywhere and usually means my sensors are screwed, but not much else info wise
ill take it back and try again
however, ive gotten used to the problem. As such my CEL doesnt come one anymore,my car just runs awful,so without the CEL theres really no way to tell other than the old fashioned, right?

yeah, start unplugging and when the car drives the same you found the bad sensor.

when you unplug a good one...it will drive differently and you should throw a cel. Dealers are worthless...and will find something wrong whether there is or not...

have you got an account on hmaservice.com? It will be somewhat useful (pictures suck...but generally can figure it out.)

Sign up if you haven't already...and it's free.

Hey Chris,
Do you by chance know if the 2001 Sonata Input/Output sensor parts are the same for 2002-2005??

If so do you by chance have the part number for them?

Thanks so much for all your help.

MJ

rough,as far as the sensors go,you can search outside that dealer on ebay and there are a few others that offer your year
if not, call up local salvage yards to see if they have any totalled ones-they sell them for cheap and you can usually get working ones

so heres what I did:
The 01 sonata gls v6 airbox is held down by 3 bolts, which require a 10mm socket. The first two are easy to spot, but the 3rd is holed up right under the fuse box.To get to this you pretty much need to remove the battery if you have an extender,or the battery and fuse box if not.I skipped both and just cut off the 3rd bolt plastic arm. Under the air box,the output sensor(correct me if Im wrong, especially since if I am,Im ordering the wrong part) is located right underneath-you can tell because it inserts sideways. The input is a pain to get to-its almost dead in the middle.Naturally, that happens to be one of the ones thats busted on mine.
However,Ive heard a lot of people calim its really their Throttle Positioning System thats going rather than input and output, and in some cases and combination of the three. Im not certain where the TPS is,but I took a guess and pulled whatever the top large black sensor(13.5v) was,and noticed no change,so if anyone knows what that is ,Id be ridiculously gratefule-hmaservice isnt to great for finding that out.
So if Im right on my guesses,I need a new Input Sensor and a TPS
If anyone has replaced the Input, any help on how I get down into it,or is it better to come up from underneath? Thanks tons, hope this helps others

mines a 2000 sonata 2.4 and i had to change the speed output sensor i think thats the same thing your talking about and to do mine we just had to take off the air filter, just 3 or 4 screws and the connectors for it and then it was right under that. slips right out, seemed to work. still goes to high rpms sometimes before shifting but will shift without having to let off the gas and the part i got it from a hyundai dealer but they didnt put it in
