Hello,

I just moved to NYC (from NJ) in December. Before I moved I got a oil change at about 5500 miles. I barely drive my car now. I mainly cut it on every three days to move it to the opposite side of the street (parking rules), to run errands locally, or to drive back to Jersey. I only put about 1500 miles on it since my last oil change (back in Nov).

My question is....When exactly should i get an oil change?

Short trips are very hard on the engine and oil. I'd change it every 6 months at the very least regardless of mileage.

We have very low miles on two vehicles (less than 5-6,000 miles/year). Regardless, we change the oil at least twice a year.

Agreed with the other replies. Do it every 6 months at least even if you don't drive much.
