Catman,

What the h*## is snow!

No, seriously, there is snow in the Snowy Mountains in Victoria and a bit in NSW, plus some in Tasmania, the forgotten island (apologies to Dazz), but the rest of Australia has no issues with snow.

catman, Bob is right, very rarely ever see snow in Australia. also it is rare to ever have to detour because of snow, as were it snows you just drive there it does not happen on any major highways very often. our climate is dry inland and humid on the coastline. were i am a low temp would be about 10c a high temp would be about 40c

QUOTE
The Australian/NZ i30 has a suspension tuned to our raod conditions. A test vehicle was brought out here from Korea and underwent lots of testing and adjustments until they got it right for our roads. Evidently our suspension is firmer.

Found a picture of a disguised i30 under test in Australia on dirt roads. This appeared on the CarAdvice website in July 2007.

Hi boys ,

I asked you about the snow in mean of tire ... in Europe because we have wide temp gap between max and min values (in Serbia from -15 to 5 during winter time and 20 to 40 during the spring and summer time) we must change our tire every winter to special winter tire with soft setup rubber ... and after the winter in the spring time we must change again to summer harder rubber tire ... annoyingly but useful .

You are very lucky in Australia ... sun always shining and snow is only present on postcards !

Catman,

Good to hear from you again. The changing of tyres from summer (harder compound) to winter (soft compound) and back again would be, as we Australians say, "a pain in the ****!" I wonder if that will get sensored?

We shall see ....

Yep, sure enough, it did.

Try this: "A pain in the backside!"

Should get away with that.

*Radio display scratches easily

*Roof lining not tucked in correctly on passenger side door

*Slow and laboured upshift from 1 to 2, downshifting from 3 to 2, and 2 to 1 whilst slowing down, bit like my Excel

*Pre delivery tape and adhesive marks still on car when delivered

*Delivered with a 1/3 tank of diesel

Thats all I can think of for the time being, besides the above, car drives fine, no squeeks or rattles, more than enough torque for daily duties.

Will drop the oil at 500km just to remove the initial wear and shavings.

Have to go over the whole car again properly myself with a clay bar, polish and wax, so much for the $3,000 dealer delivery folks.

turbo1600,

Take it back and ask for it to be detailed again if you are not happy.

Had non of the issues with our car excepting for the gear-shift. This is freeing up as the car is driven more and more.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on :)

Yes not happy with the detail, but Ive already taken delivery and its already covered in road crap, so when I get the chance, I will do the detail correctly, who knows, maybe the guy doing the pre delivery work is inexperienced or not happy with his/her job, not the salespersons fault.

If I buy another car, Ill just ask for the car delivered as is with stickers, plastic wrapping, foam and wood chocks, gives me more incentive to knock down the price.

Hey Turbo,

You're not such a hard nut after all...I would have jumped up and down if mine was presented like that.

Gear shift in lower gears was one of my early criticisms but has improved already (3000km) and someone on the forum who's done over 10000km says there car has improved immeasurably in this area.

Enjoy the new ride. About to give mine a good thorough clean up inside and out (been a bad boy using it as a work horse to cart gear up to my new block)

Rgds,

Dazz

Turbo1600 thats a good idea! dropping oil at 500k, also good to inspect it closely, what oil will you replace it with?

Most likely a 10/30 or 10/40 mineral grade oil, once summer comes round, itll be onto the 15/40 grade.

Will start using synthetic oil once it clears 15,000km

Turbo1600, i agree not good to use synthetic too early , i found out the type oil Hyundai recomend to be used with the partical filter is a fully synthetic oil that is low smoke, i'll find out monday if can run mineral base with the partical filter without damagine it as they are pricy, and if you go to get one under warranty they would test i'm sure.
just thought i'd tell you.

Ive had a look over on the Kia forums and Ive been reading up on particulate filters.

Apparently the type of oil used can affect the filter and make it clog up, I dont believe Aus delivered i30 CRDis had these filters fitted.

In the owners manual, it says the oil must meet ACEA C3 standards if the vehicle is fitted with one, if not ACEA B4 is adequate.
