It has been interesting to read in recent forums what other members have written about camshaft belt replacement intervals. In the U.K. the owners manual and the workshop manual states that the belt should be changed at 40,000 miles, l noted that a guy in the U.S. stated that the belt change interval there was 60,000 miles and that in California it was only 'recommended'. the belt change interval is different again in some asian countries. Perhaps other members could through some more light on this subject before someone gets a snapped belt and a masive repair bill

96000km (60000m) is the factory recommended replacement time. The UK might be differnt (but I don't think so), best is to check the owners manual. The timing belt AUTO-TENSIONER must be replaced at the same time (even if the tech things it's still OK).

thanks for your reply duke and yes l fully agree with your comment about the tensioner, but read my topic again. even allowing for the difference in u.s. miles and u.k. miles there is a difference of approx. 18,000 miles between the two regions. why! l fully intend to change my belt at or before the u.k. recomended time of 40,000 miles, so what if you guys in the states and canada intend to leave yours till 60,000 miles and it breaks at 57,000?

Even if you bought the car used (like I just recently did) the warrantee still covers the vehicle up to 60k miles, so assuming that the time hadn't expired, I'd just get it replaced under warrentee. I would hope that the timing belt would not be considered a wear component, especially if it failed before it was supposed to be replaced.
