I own a 1998 Hyundai Accent 1.3L Gold model.

In the last few weeks, the oil light on the dash board has intermittently flashed at me, especially when I brake.

I have checked (and got a few others to check for me) and there is plenty of oil in the car, and it is not overfull either.

The car was last serviced 8 months ago, i do not do heavy mileage. The timing belt was replaced 3 months ago.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Thanks for any help.

The oil light is not for the amount of oil in the pan, it is a warning for low pressure. Now, if there isn't enough oil in the pan, that can cause a low pressure situation but if you have the right amount of oil in the pan and the light is flashing then there are times when the oil pressure is dropping to dangerous levels. This could be a oil pump going bad or a clogged filter or pickup. Either way, get the car looked at ASAP. Who did the timing belt work and how long ago? I'd start there.

change the oil and filter and change the oil pressure switch. if that does not cure the problem then you may have low oil pressure which is a sign that your engine is badly worn
