I have a 99 Accent (Excel) 5 door GLI. 250,000Kms. Runs like a charm. My son has a 99 3 door model. His engine is "Pinking". Rattling under load. Could the timing be too far ADVANCED? How do you adjust the timing on these 1.5 DOHC engines?

you can not adjust the timing as it is controled by the ecu. you will need to look elsewhere ie plugs, leads etc

It's possible the spark plug leads could be out of order.

In my '96 Excel, coming from the vertical distributer cap thingy, the first one should go into the leftmost spark plug (1). The next goes into the 4th spark plug. The next goes into the 3rd spark plug. The last one goes into the 2nd spark plug.

if it has the same head as an Elantra (2.0 Mitsu engine) you can use a DSM CAS and adjust timing. :whistling:
