Setting The Timing, Ignition timing.

Newbie Group: Members Posts: 8 Joined: 21-June 06 Member No.: 19,054 Status: Location: Australia Drives: 1999 Excel 5 door 1.5	I have a 99 Accent (Excel) 5 door GLI. 250,000Kms. Runs like a charm. My son has a 99 3 door model. His engine is "Pinking". Rattling under load. Could the timing be too far ADVANCED? How do you adjust the timing on these 1.5 DOHC engines?

GLOBAL MODERATOR Group: Super Mod Posts: 4,667 Joined: 21-January 05 Member No.: 4,257 Status: Location: south east England Drives: XG's (2001&2002)	you can not adjust the timing as it is controled by the ecu. you will need to look elsewhere ie plugs, leads etc

In my '96 Excel, coming from the vertical distributer cap thingy, the first one should go into the leftmost spark plug (1). The next goes into the 4th spark plug. [right][snapback]144991[/snapback][/right] if it has the same head as an Elantra (2.0 Mitsu engine) you can use a DSM CAS and adjust timing. :whistling:
