Car: 1999 Hyundai Grandeur XG

Problem: Transmission gets stuck in 3rd gear.

Explanation:

I will be driving along in 5th gear when suddenly BAM i get a huge jerk and my car is RPM'n at 4K and im now stuck in 3rd gear. I can use my tip-tronic to get down to 2nd gear but thats it. My only option is to avoid an accident when ever it happens and pull over, turn my car off.

Now usually i can start it again and be able to drive normally but sometimes it goes straight back to 3rd and sometimes it will even be stuck in 1st and I have to wait until it stuffs up again so i can drive in 3rd gear!!!!!!

I have replaced the input sensor and the output was done 2 years ago.

I took it to hyundai and they got these error codes:

Crankshaft POS Sensor P0335
Variable Induction System P1159
ETS Limphome Mode Valve On P1191
ETS Limphome Low ROM P1193

Now as the car didnt falter when i took it to get the codes read the guy said he could not find any transmission error codes. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what i should do?

thanks for the replies, i changed the input but want to make sure its the output sensor at fault before i spend more money. I pulled out the 3 ECS fuses and left it for a few hours. What other issues could it be apart from the sensors? I am using the right hyundai tranny oil....

Hi JustWantHelp, did you get the trans fixed and if yes, what did you have to do to fix it?

i have just experienced a similar problem as yourself and have been quoted $300.00 to replace a outward speed sensor to my 2001 grandeur. Hope it does the job.
