I have an 00 that was recalled for something like that, and this was after my airbag light came on. I still have a disconnected wire as well under my drivers seat. This is what I found for the 2002 Sonata at http://www.mycarstats.com
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
NHTSA Recall Campaign Number: 02V145000

Component: AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW

Details: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG SATELLITE SENSORS MAY BE TOO SENSITIVE TO SOME LATERAL ACCELERATIONS THAT ARE NOT CAUSED BY SIDE IMPACTS TO THE VEHICLE, SUCH AS FORCEFULLY SLAMMING A DOOR CLOSED.

Consequence: INADVERTENT DEPLOYMENT OF A SRS SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG WHEN A SIDE IMPACT CRASH HAS NOT OCCURRED COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE SEAT OCCUPANT.

Corrective Action: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG SATELLITE SENSORS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JULY 8, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HYUNDAI AT 1-800-633-5151.

Units Potentially Affected: 43162

Recall Initiated By: MFR
Date added to NHTSA datbase: 06/03/2002

That connector has nothing to do with the airbag system. The airbag wiring is yellow and if you disconnect it and reconnect it with the battery connected you may be buying a new seat back and a trip to the hospital. Stop screwing around with it, find someone with a Hi-scan (dealer) and have the problem diagnosed. The light may be due to the crap you shove under your seat or it may be in another part of the system but without a scantool you are guessing with a safety system. There was a campaign to secure the harness under both seats and a search of hmaservice.com will get it for you but without a scan it dont mean a thang

I have the same problem. I have taken my car to the dealer several times and the light keeps coming back on. I read on Directed Electronics Installer Tech site that a improperly installed remote start or alarm system will cause this issue. Something about a connection to the relay box on the driver side under the dash being bad somewhere. As my remote start system was dealer installed, I wasn't worried about it and it took awhile to show up as a problem. It wasn't until I had to install a system on a Tiburon that I read that tech note and it made sense. Only problem is, I haven't found time to fix my problem to verify the dealer caused it with a poor install. Point of all this is, do you have a dealer installed alarm or remote start? You may have the same problem as I do.
