QUOTE(ddix1026 @ Mar 20 2008, 06:23 PM) they are quite smooth looking.. but i thought they were coming out with a V8 for the Genesis also, no? or is that only for the sedan? (or not in the US at all?)
The Coupe gets a Turbo-4 for the base engine and the 3.8L V6 (tweaked version from the Azera) as the upgrade engine. I haven't heard anything official as to whether it will get the 3.3L version as a mid-line option. The V8 was canned several months ago for the Coupe. In order to make the V8 fit the car, they'd have had to start all over on the design, which would have cost too much money (and time!) The 300hp V6 Coupe will start under $25K (probably not by much, though). The Sedan gets the 3.3L V6 (same as ours) for the base engine, the 3.8L (from the Azzy) as a mid-range model, and a 4.6L V8 pushing 375hp for the top-o'-the-line. The Sedan is said to start under $30K (read $29,995). They make it sound like the V8 model will be that price, but I'm sure it will be the 3.3L for that price. If it were the V8 for $30K, no one would buy the Azera (not like they do now anyway - I'm actually wondering if Hyundai will even keep the Azera in the North American market at all). The V8 will probably be pushing $40-45K. For those that thought it was a Tibby, it's not. They are styled similarly, but not the same car. The Tiburon will remain a part of the Hyundai lineup as a front driver. The Genesis Coupe (Ginny, anyone?) is supposed to be a "Mustang killer," although I'm sure most Stang fans won't even think twice about it. However, for under $25K you can have a 300hp RWD Coupe that weighs about the same as the GT pony and is very similarly priced. With an equal power-to-weight ratio, it'll be nice to see how they compare on the track.

In Motor Trend's April 2008 issue, a reader more or less raises the same question about the Genesis/Tiburon being a "Mustang Beater". Here is their response: "We said the V-6 Hyundai concept would get to 60 in "fewer than six seconds." A Mustang GT went from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds, which, last time we checked, is not a full second quicker than even then longest of time spans shorter than 6.0 seconds. Other salient points in the story include "the power-to-weight ratio should be equal to the Mustang's" and "how does a projected base price under $25,000 sound?" The same power for less money? At this early juncture, before driving the production version, that's exactly what we would call a Mustang beater - Ed."
