Yesterday my son and I were cruising along when we suddenly heard a terrible rubbing noise:o. It sounded like the tire was rubbing the wheel well. It turned out to be a rather large plastic shield looking thingy which had come loose and was scraping the road. I pulled into a parking lot where my son was able to reach under the car and "press" it back into place after which we drove several more miles without incident. I didn't have a chance to investigate it further yesterday but I will take a closer look at it later today. Anyone else have this problem.

Check out my thread via this link. Perhaps this is what you are talking about. It is a splash shield directly under the radiator.

Hi d-p-1,

This isn't the same thing. My dangling shield is located directly below the passenger seat (not really near the radiator). It runs vertically (front to back). It is about 8" to 12" wide and about 24" to 30" long. It looks like the shield broke off of the screws that were holding it to the under side of the car. I think that it got forced loose while driving through standing water during a heavy rain. The shield isn't very sturdy to begin with. It looks like it is just a matter of ordering the part and reattaching it.

I took it to the dealer today but they could not get to it until Friday. The service writer said that the mechanics are running 2 days behind on Hyundai cars. Hmmm....makes me wonder why...., not enough help in the shop, lots of Hyundai problems, just really busy....who knows. So, 2 days just to take a look at something that will take less than 5 minutes to fix.:o

I wonder if they will try to say it is my fault that it happened and charge me for it. I'll be mad if they do.

:offtopic: rant
I've been to two different dealers service departments where they service Hyundai and other car brands under the same roof and my impression at both places was that no one cared all that much about Hyundai. The vibe was that Hyundai was the red-headed step child.

Hi Campoly,

Did you ever get this resolved? I had the same thing happen over the weekend, and I also suspect that the warranty is not going to cover it, even though it's their choice of lousy materials to use for this part.

Thanks!

The problem is not that Hyundai uses "Lousy materials" for this part. It is actually made quite well. The problem is that it sits rather low and when you scrape it on a concrete barrier, one or more mounts can get broken. The mounts are molded into the lower radiator support brace. Eventually it will start flapping in the breeze.

When I repaired mine, I made sure that it would sit higher. Now it does not scrape any of the parking lot barriers.

The only thing I scrape now are the two tow hooks that are under the front end on each side. It doesn't hurt them but it sure does make a racket.

Of course, if your problem is the plastic part just below the driver's seat, that is another story. If I am not mistaken, those pieces are just attached via nylon push pins. Not really sure as haven't had that problem, yet. This should definitely be covered under warranty.

Hi thelark!

Yes, I had this fixed and it was covered. There was no charge for the repair. This "shield" is not the same as the one david-paul-1 had a problem with. This shield was was located further back than shows in his photo. It is located under the passenger seat. This shield was very thin and flimsy and I am not sure just what it is shielding. I don't ever remember scraping it on anything. It came off on a rainy day and I suspect a deep(ish) water puddle did it in. On the work order, the replaced part is listed as part # 84226-3L000. No description is given of the part.

P.S: This shield is located rear of the front wheels and does not hang low so it wouldn't have been scraped on a concrete barrier.
