I've had a similar problem on my 99 accent 5 speed not to long ago. I changed the cranshaft position sensor on my accent and tried idling it for 30 mins. The problem seems to have gone away. As for the check engine light, if you have a diagnostic reader, post the error code and maybe I can help you out.

Hey motorider,

sorry about your problem. There are a few sensors that may cause that problem. Camshaft position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, or an o2 sensor. Not too concerned about the o2 sensor but the other two are you're best bet. If you have a check engine light on, a reader will give you error codes. Then you can work from there. If you don't have a check engine light on, it could be many things like a clogged fuel filter, faulty spark plugs, dirty air flow meter.
